I live in Southern California. There is a freeway that I travel on,
almost every weekday. It takes me past Edison Field, where the CA
Angels play. On my way home, the average speed is about 3 MPH.
(Really, no exaggeration). So I have a lot of time to notice all the
advertisements around the stadium.

A few weeks ago, one of the billboards really caught my attention.
Not because of the great ad, though. But, because of what seemed
to be missing.

Let me try to explain this billboard. On the right side, there is a logo
that says IMG. On the left side, a picture of a man, with the name
"Eric Karros" underneath. I'm assuming he's a baseball player
because underneath all this, in the center, are the words, "Two
Winners In One City. Let's See What We Can Do For Your
Business."

That's it. Nothing else. I have studied that billboard, almost every
day for 3 weeks, and I have yet to discover any contact information.
No phone number, no address, no URL. NOTHING!

At first I thought I must be missing it. I mean, I don't know how much
it costs to put up a full size billboard right across the freeway from
Angel Stadium, but I DO know that it can't be cheap. It absolutely
amazed me that a company would spend such a significant amount
of their advertising budget and not include any means of contact.

Then I thought, maybe it was a mistake, and it would be corrected.
"Maybe the company will even get some free ad time out of this!"
I thought.

But within a week, I started seeing this billboard in other areas of the
city. And they were all the same! No contact information.

Now here's my question to you; How can I "see what they can do for
my business" if I don't know how to contact them?

Do they really expect ME to do all the work to get in touch with them?
Am I supposed to call information, which will cost me $.75, and find
out where this company is, get their phone number, all just for the
privilege of giving them my money? I don't think so......As far as I'm
concerned, they just lost a potential sale.

The moral of this article? Don't let this happen to YOU. Always,
always make it easy for anyone, with even a speck of interest, to get
in touch with you. E-mail, phone number, address, ANYTHING.
Tell your potential customers where you are, and how they can
contact you.

   When I started out on-line I didn't have any budget so I
set out to find free resources for all my needs. After about
a year I put my bookmark collection on-line. You know it as

providers I began to purchase services from the companies
that had helped me get started. I would like to share some
of these resources with you.

   I started out with a free email account even before I had
a internet connection. Juno.com mail offers a free
downloadable program with a local dialup number, It's
perfect for people that don't even have a dialup
connection. Although anyone can do it themselves my son
has made a business of installing Juno mail on people's
computers. He charges ten dollars to set it up, it
takes him about 5 minutes to install it and a few more to
teach how to use.

   I also developed a list of free web-based email accounts,
I suggest you get a free web-based email account using it as
a reply email address whenever you are at risk of your real
email address getting spammed.

   It's especially useful if you can forward your email to
the web-based account when you travel. Last summer I was
living in the mountains of Montana for several weeks, I was
able to get my email from a friend. I answered my emails off
line and only needed to be connected for a couple of minutes
to get my email and another couple of minutes to deliver my
responses, It surprised me how well it worked, I even made
and uploaded a major revision of my web-site while I was on
the road.

   Things started picking up weeks from my submissions but I
was still only getting a few visitors a day. The next
process was visiting each major search engine using my most
important keywords. I looked at the top 10 pages from each

higher ranking sites. I would then alter my meta tags to be
more more like the top listings. just two years ago you
could easily get a top ten listing but not any more. It also
takes a lot more time now than it used to.

website you need your own domain name first - then a server

more. I was able to obtain all these services when I moved
my files to a commercial domain name server.

   A year ago I wouldn't have said this step was necessary
but today it's a must having virtual domain server and
