PRIME THE PUMP - Give Before You Get

I'm writing this from my moterhome while my son drives
us on yet another working vacation. I couldn't tell you
how grateful I am that I finally got to where I am now.
There are many ways to be rich and working from home is
right at the top for me.
Almost three years ago I made a decision to work towards
working on-line full time.
I started by reading everything I could get my hands on
about how to successfully make a full time income on-line.
I subscribed to every newsletter dealing with home based
business, and networking. At one time I was actually
getting over 1,000 newsletters and ezines each month
although I have cut back now to my favorite 100 or so.
When I started I had no history in sales. The only sales
job I ever worked was selling running shoes for Nike. The
cash receipts never came out right; it was usually my fault
as I couldn't be bothered with the money side of business.
I still value my freedom more than any amount of money.
I had always believed that if you want to learn
something put yourself in a position where you teach what
you want most to learn. That's why I started this
newsletter and the monthly on-line ezine.

Every week I average about 20-30 hours just reading &
writing articles asking permission to print the best ones
by the best authors and mentors.
I have never earned a dime directly from the newsletter
or the ezine yet I am now successfully employed full time
working from home.
How can this be? Where's the money come from?
Let me tell you a story to illustrate my point.
Imagine you are hopefully lost in the desert you ran out
water days ago, and the temperature is over 100 degrees.
Just as you are about to give up and expire you stumble
into a rusty old water pump, you pump like mad but no water
comes out.
Then you see a little bottle of water beside the pump,
and a note that read.
"This ole pump will work, just take that little bottle
of water pour it down the well. It will wet the leather
washer. You will get all the water you want.
Earning money on-line is not impossible but perhaps 90%
spend more money than they make the first year.
I think most of this wasted money is spent in search of
the silver bullet that will make you rich overnight. Big
business want to continue to keep us working for them, they
want the lion's share of the income for themselves. Our
culture reminds us that a bird in the hand (a job) is worth
two in the bush.
So if 90% fail the first year why waste time trying?
Giving up too soon is like drinking that little bottle
of water, which only partly satisfies your thirst.
On the other hand instead of drinking the little bottle
you invest your fate into the well where you can have an
unlimited supply.
You have to give before you get; I'm the one that ought
to know.
I'm going to give you the benefit of all I have learned
in three years. It's the secret to success and it works
100% of the time. I can summarize in one word.
CONTENT
Free useful content about almost anything at all.
Earning residual income is much different than working
at a job. Authors, writers earn residual income. The
income comes from work they have already done.

Success on the Internet comes through giving before you
get; it's as simple as that. If you are serious enough to
want to be in that top 5 to 10% all you have to do is
center your business around developing free content in your
area of expertise, everyone has expertise and everyone has
a passion, find yours and integrate it into your business.
Prime the pump.
It's getting easier than it used to me. When I started
there were no easy way to learn the skills to build a
successful home based business. Now there are so many
"systems" out there that one can purchase it's hard to know
which ones are best.

Mixed Bag:: Editor's Ramblings
*Not much time to ramble this week. Offline activities are sucking
up huge amounts of time, but at least we are back to the intended
delivery day.
*Still no free PC from freepc.com. Wondering if they were pulling
my leg?
*AllAdvantage told its membership it will only pay for 10 hours of
surfing, less than the "target" of 40. Still our little family continues
to grow. I know I was an early member, but have not received
instructions to download the veiwbar which will serve ads to me. I
would love to hear from someone who has downloaded it and is
now using the viewbar. chris@stealthpromotions.com
*GoToWorld has been very busy updating the member section, and
we are looking forward to seeing what will happen this next month
as it continues to expand. Their membership stands around 60,000
after two weeks. Perhaps people are taking a "wait and see" posture
before joining?
*We added an amusing page to a client's site this week, or we think

*AllAdvantage and GoToWorld have some more competition. If
this concept of "permission" marketing, which is the way one of the
organizations describe it, appeals to you, you may look at the newest

These folks
say they will be paying 60 cents/hour up to 50 hours, when their
ad delivery system is ready (3-6 weeks). As you know that is 10
cents more than AllAdvantage + 10 hours/month more, but again
we are waiting for their delivery system to be available.
The entry of yet another "paid to surf" program gives me the idea
that someone besides me believes this kind of marketing will work.
You skeptics may point out that AllAdvantage did drop the hours
they would pay for this next month from 40 to 10, a 75% decrease
in potential revenues for the 1.6 or 1.7 million members. You are
right to do so. Just as right as I am to point out that their promise
to pay for 10 hours X 1.7 million members X 80 cents/hour means
that they may have sold just under $16 million bucks worth of ads.
If they can show any kind of response over the cost of banners or
other online advertising, they should be able to sell more for August.
My recommendation is still to get involved with all four programs
listed below but don't quit your day job just yet. We will see.

Writing A Killer Sales Ad

Who is Your Target Market?
Finding your target market is very important to your success. It's
better to find your niche market and work in it than to try to market
your product or service to a wide range of people. For example, I
specialize in helping others market their business. I want to target
people who have businesses online. I wouldn't want to advertise in
a ezine focusing on parenting or weight loss.
What Do Your Customers Want?
What do you put in the ad? The first rule of advertising - find out
what your customers want, need and fear - then give it to them.
How do you find out what they want? Ask them. Put questions out
to your target market. Use forums, newsletters, discussion lists.
You may be surprised at what you find out. Also, survey past
customers. Ask them why they bought from you. You may find out
why they bought and why you thought they bought are two
different things!
Writing Your Ad
When writing your ad, you want to keep it short and to the point.
Don't use all capital letters. Don't try to sell every benefit in the ad.
You want just enough to get their attention, so they want more
information. To do this, select a few of your best benefits (I'll tell
you how to make your list of benefits a little later). Use these in
your ad and title. Remember, you want to get their attention. You
will want to spend most of your time on the title or fist line of your
ad. If you don't catch their attention by then, you probably won't.

Making a List of Benefits
An easy way to make a list of benefits is to list all the features of
your product or service. Now, write down what benefit you get
from each. A feature is a quality or description of the product -
what the products does. A benefit is what you get out of the
feature. What does it do for me? Don't assume your prospective
customer will think of all the benefits. They usually won't take the
time. You must point them out.
Be Specific
General statements don't work as well as specific ones. Example:
Increase your sales by 187%, instead of using 200%. It is better to
use 9.8% than 10%. Don't round off your results. Keep them
specific.
The Sales Letter
Once you have your ad written, you want to set up your
autoresponders with your sales letter and follow ups. Here you will
give them all of the benefits of your product or service. Make the
sales letter enticing. Use exciting words. Make sure that every
point flows naturally into the next. Keep it simple to follow. Be
clear. Get testimonials and use them. Above all, write your sales
letter as though you are talking to someone. Use informal
language. When making the follow up letters, use different titles.
Put your main focus on a different benefit in each letter.
Always transfer ownership. Make your sales letter more personal
by using "you" and "your". Say "You will learn...", not
"The report
will...". "Your report will be delivered in 5 days.", not "The report
will
be...". Count how many "you's" and "your's" you have in your
letter. There should be at least twice as many "you's" and "your's"
as "I's", "we's", "me's", "our;s" or the company's
name.
The Bonus
Always offer a bonus. Offer more than one bonus and give a
monetary value. Example: free bonus report worth $39.95.
Closing the Sales Letter
Close out the sales letter by asking for the sale. Use phrases that
stimulate the potential customer to action. Give them a reason to
act now. The first 50 who respond. On sale for limited time. Be
sure to give a time limit. 2 days, 2 weeks. If you act within the next
