Traffic from FFA's. Really.

Back in the old days (in Internet time, two
years ago was "the old days"), submitting
your site to free link pages (AKA Free-for-All
Link Pages or "FFA" pages) was not a bad way
to promote your business. That is, for a
small amount of effort, you could get a medium
amount of traffic.
The theory was: "If you submit to one hundred
FFA sites, you may get a click or two. Automate
this process and submit to hundreds and you may
end up with a decent amount of traffic."
Eventually, software appeared which would
submit your FFA links to hundreds of pages at
a time. The solution to your traffic-building
woes, right?
As you probably know by now, this just isn't
the case. It doesn't work that way, and here's
why:
Once this automation software began to proliferate,
the effectiveness of the FFA postings went down
dramatically. That is, your listing would last
about 10 minutes on any given page since there
were hundreds of other people out there submitting
at any given time. It stands to reason that if
your FFA listing shows up on a page for less time,
your link has a smaller chance of getting seen.
So, what I'm saying is, if you are submitting
using a popular software program, your chances
of getting traffic from those postings is lessened.
That is why the FFA submission feature in Swiss Army
App is free:
Now, my company still submits to FFAs on a regular
basis. Why?
Two reasons:
1. There *is* still a way to submit to FFA sites
that will get you good traffic, and it will probably
surprise you. It's something most people don't
take advantage of.
2. There is a whole other reason to submit to FFAs
that will bring you traffic *indirectly*.
Are you confused? Don't worry, it will be clear in
a minute.
Now, as for #1, this is really cool. Remember the
paradox about FFA submissions - if you could
automate, you would increase your chances of
getting seen, but the act of automation itself
actually lessened the overall result. What if you
could automate the process *without* lessening the
result? Wouldn't that be great?
The good news is that you can automate and still
get results. An amazing little tool called "Free
Link Finder" takes all the good things about FFA
submitting and removes all the bad.
You see, the paradox occurred because everyone using
the software was using the same list. If you were
submitting to a list of FFA pages that no one else
was using, wouldn't your chances for exposure increase?
Of course they would - dramatically!
Free Link Finder does this by spidering the net (based
on search criteria you feed it), finding FFA pages, and
submitting to them one by one. You simply give the
program a set of search criteria and set it loose.
Then go on about your other important business while
the app generates traffic for you. This is *very*
cool:
I use this app all the time and the results are *far*
better than what I get using a canned list everyone else
is using. Since the sites to which I'm submitting are
generally pages that are submitted to less often, every
submission I make brings exponentially better results
than what I would get from a FFA submitter that submits
to the same list over and over.
Give this a shot and see for yourself. (Keep in mind
that a well crafted title for your submission will
increase your results even more. As always, experiment
with various titles to see what works best.)
OK, so what about Reason #2? It takes a few logical
jumps to understand how this works, but let's give it
a shot:
a. Some search engines use "link popularity" when
deciding how to rank your pages. That is, if more
sites are linking to you, your link popularity is
higher. The logic being that if more people link
to you, the quality and importance of your site is
probably higher. (The free version of Swiss Army App
lets you check your link popularity on all of the
engines that support it.)
b. If you can somehow increase your link popularity,
all of your listings in the engines will be given a
bit more weight.
c. You can artificially increase your site's link
popularity by submitting to FFA pages. That is, many
of the FFA pages to which you submit will be spidered
by the engines. Your links will be found and increase
the link popularity for that particular URL. This is
an instant, automated way of giving your listings a
boost.
Now, let's turn this into an action plan. This
information will only increase your traffic when you
*act on it*.
*Action Plan*:
OK, let's put all this together. Here is an action
plan you can use to increase traffic to your site
with just a small amount of effort on your part:
- Basic Steps
a. Use the free version of Swiss Army App to check
your site's link popularity:
d. Over time, you will build a huge list of FFA pages
to which you can submit. The URLs of each of these
pages are saved to a file. Upload this file as an
HTML page to your site. Then, turn the Swiss Army
App spider submitter loose on that page and submit
each of those FFA URLs to the engines. Do this
*right after* you submit to the FFA pages. This will
ensure each of those FFA pages is spidered by the
engines. Do this once a week.
e. Check your link popularity after doing this for
two months. It will have gone through the roof.
Remember folks, this information will only increase
your traffic when you act on it. Download both of
those apps now before you forget. This is an easy
way to increase your traffic.

Surfing for pay this week:
AllAdvantage is spreading its ViewBar release into France,
Germany, Australia and New Zealand. Expect to be able to get
your software before New Year's Eve. This one continues to
be King Kong in this field.
Last week you learned about GetPaid4 from TechnoSurf. Seems
that they have had a change of heart on their payment method.
As is their right, by way of the agreement we signed, they
have set targets for clickthrus as part of the payment system.
Too many or too few and you are put in the inactive status.
The pay out is still 70% of their revenues, but the hourly is
DOWN to about 55 cents/hour from $1.00 in November.
Disappointed? Sure, but I still think this is a strong program,
and I am using it right now as I type this text document. That
makes it a good choice for your "surf/get paid" group. Be
careful, I was honestly interested in some of the banners they
have loaded, but all I can do right now is watch until my rate
goes down some.
mValue has posted information their contest which ends on
January, 2000. Remember that they are paying prize money
from $100 - $1,000,000 for those folks with the most points.
Points come from sign ups and use of the ad-serving software.
I was pleased to see that I am actually in the hunt at this
time. No, not the $1,000,000, but anything is always better
than a kick in the head, and that is what you should always
remember when dealing with any of these "surf/get paid"
plans. You are online anyway, might as well get paid, and
if you haven't joined mValue, I appreciate it if you follow
my link on my page to give them a try. It would help me,
and I think it will be good for you too. After you join,
you can look at what you need to qualify for a check so.
I think about six referrals would put you in the running
for $100.
Utopiad sent a post-Thanksgiving note admitting that by
golly the pay rate with their ad-serving software was about
8-10 cents/hour. They seemed to blame that on the 83,000
downloads of their software? Perhaps it overwhelmed their
server. They promised to work on it and get the rate to
about 20 cents/hour by the middle of this month, and reminded
members that there is no limit on surf time. They will pay
you for as much time as you want to spend time online with them.
They have also rolled out their get paid to get email program
which you can opt into by following the right link on your
member page.
I am NOT sure about BePaid.com. I told you about them last
week. Claiming a rate of not less than $20/hour, the offer
sounded good. Was that a real offer? Like I said last week,
I don't know. As your faithful beta tester, I downloaded the
software, and I DID see a welcome add and a one other about
their membership drive contest. That is it. That is bad.
Worse is that it made the old 'puter do a few surprising things.
My suggestion is to wait, if you have not joined yet. I will
give you the go-ahead when the clutter clears.
CashMap has reworked their web site to expand offerings from
names you would know. They claim you can now earn as much as
$100/year just by yourself and more with referrals if you go
by once a day and participate.
GoToWorld, which I had written off, claimed to have sent average
checks of $47 this past month. Maybe. Maybe they just had a lot
of folks qualify for a check for the first time. They do now
have a chat program that you can use and get paid, and they offer
a multi-language translation program. Still, I am waiting on the
sidelines on this one. There are better uses of my surf time.

The Art Of Duplication Is The Key To Online Success

Anyone can be successful marketing on the Internet.
It's as simple as discovering what works for you, not
quitting, and duplicating the things that bring you success.
Internet marketing success is a lot like launching a rocket
into space. 99% of the work is in getting off the launch pad,
once launched you can ride the momentum to the stars.
When McDonald's started it was just one burger stand. As the
McDonald brothers tried several ways of marketing the burgers,
they eventually came up with a plan to be the best burger
stand the local area. They accomplished it by taking a chance
and trying something new and original for the time. They made
the first DRIVE-IN burger stand, the rest is history.
They didn't have to go looking for people to sell franchises
to, people found them. Most of the time & work was in learning
how to make that first store profitable. When you create your
first success people will be attracted to you like moths to a
flame
The Internet isn't really any different. No one can tell you
how to make that first sale. I can tell you what works for us,
but because everyone has different skill sets and experiences,
what works for me is not necessarily going to work for you.
The hardest sale to make is the first one, after that each
sale gets easier because you build on that first success as
you gain experience and momentum . Don't expect to earn 6 figures
the first year or two. You are responsible for your results.
Your first home business goal should be to make $300 profit. The
next goal is $300 a month then $300 a day. You can use any number
you want.
Unfortunately most people quit, or more specifically they never
get started. That's why they invented jobs, it's the both a *safe*
alternate, and valuable backup source of income during your
transition. to self employment.
You can't fail unless you quit, the important thing to remember
is * NEVER QUIT* success is the direct result of productive time
and effort, well spent.
I can't tell you everything you should *do* to launch your business,
I can tell you what is working for others or what is working for me.
Everyone is blessed with their own special talents. The key is to
through scientific experimentation, to find & duplicate what ever
works for you. Once you earn that first sale, continue your
experimentation, just make smaller changes in your marketing plan.
Over time you will continue revising your business plan based on your
success. Success is achieved through many small steps revised
continually over a period of time.
The reason we publish this newsletter is to share the things that
are working for the experts. If you want to be like them, do what
they do and see if it works for you.
The average person will fail several times before launching a business
successfully. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful
people is that successful people keep on trying. It's really just that
simple. All it takes is to duplicate your success.
Here Are A Few Internet Marketing Guidelines We Have Found Useful.
1) Choose a product that sells for under $50. If it's a business
opportunity don't spend a lot up front. In fact - Don't spend too
much money period. You usually can't buy success, the business should
help pay for itself very quickly.
2) People go to the Internet for free Information. Offer them useful
information for free. This builds trust and helps establish your
expertise. Everyone is an expert at something.
3) Create a dialogue with people you can help and people who can help
you. The Internet can be impersonal - you must establish a relationship
with your niche market.
4) Use your email. It's your most valuable marketing tool - Find an
information need then to fill it. I'm not talking about SPAM, that
doesn't work. You *communicate* with people to establish and build
on a relationship.
5) Develop regular e-mailings both personal and for your business.
Share information with others.
6) Develop your Own success story. Facts tell and stories sell. Once
you make that first sale tell your story to others within your sphere
of influence. People will be attracted to your success and will want
to do what you do.
7) Duplicate the success of others, If you want what they have in
your life then do what they do.
8) Develop some of your own ideas. Take chances, You won't always
have success but the more things you try the more things will actually
work.
9) Make goals - Do what you say you will do.
10) PLAN - plan what you want and you'll get what you plan
