Using Mirror Pages Effectively

Thought I would share with you a very effective
technique for adding new customers to your mailing
list. These are individuals who would not otherwise
discover your products or services - because they
did not come to the internet specifically looking
for your products or services. This is through using
what some call a mirror site or mirror pages.

To construct a mirror site, chose a topic of interest
and build some content rich pages around it. You
have to provide lots of interesting or valuable
information to get and keep visitors coming to this
site. You can build this mirror site on the same server
as your business site or you can use one of the many
free webpages available. You can visit my site mentioned
below to locate a suitable provider.

The best topics are those you know a lot about and have
a real interest in. For example, I have practiced
karate for over 20 years. So I built a site around
martial arts tournaments. This site is often in the
top 20 in many search engines and indexes. It was number
15 at Alta Vista and number 12 at HotBot when I checked
on August First 1998. Another site I built around free
webpages was number 1 at InfoSeek on that same day.

It saves time for my visitors by providing a convenient
summary. Both of these sites provide what people come
to the internet searching for - FREE INFORMATION!

Properly format your web pages - to included meta tags
and a good descriptive title. This helps with the search
engines. Include links on this site to your main site
or links for products you market. Be careful though
not to have too many banners. Slowing down your pages
too much will lose potential repeat visitors. Also,
don't push too many products from this site or even your
main site. If your visitors feel a hard sell, they will
be turned off, and will click away to continue their
search for information on the topic that brought them to
your site in the first place. The idea behind the mirror
site is not to sell as much as make customer contact.

The links on your site are what draw interested surfers
to your other site and products and services. Include
a link on every page! Also include an opportunity for
the visitor to join your site mailing list or sign up
for your ezine if you publish one. Over time, many
members of your site mailing list or subscribers to
your ezine will become customers.

This is a very effective technique that has worked well
for me. Give it a try, and let me know how well it works

interests me. After all, that's the only reason anyone
will visit your mirror site.

Useful Sites:

Wow, I KNOW I am a source for breaking news on this week's site.
My fingers are fighting me, asking me to wait a week or two, to let
me completely explore all the goodies you can find at
http://www.verita.com/  Lots of things for you to explore. Good
information. Some of that from me. I put it there.
You publishers need to run right now to add your information too. There
is a section with loads of categories that YOU can ADD YOUR content
too. So what? Well, what if your article on whatever was only one of
5?  What if your article were the only one there? Some categories that
I visited with my limited time had NO entries. Click the "add content"
link and you can upload your information in a number of ways. I loved
it. Think you will too. Really there is loads of other stuff there too.
Young site. Very promising.

By the way, I am telling you about this because the very nice webmaster
contacted me and asked to exchange links (which I LOVE to do). He gave
me a number of choices, said a nice thing about my site, and did some other things that made the whole approach effective.

template per month available to those who do not wish to spend loads of

Prune Your Weeds To Grow Success

Are you letting weeds hurt your website's chance for success?

Websites are like gardens.  You just need a little space and time and
personality to grow a web page.  What you grow is up to you, but be
careful of your choices.

Gardeners can select from any flower, plant, or shrub category that
they want when planning and planting a garden.  The right choice of
ingredients leads to a mixture that is pleasing to the eye and compliments
the terrain.  A poor group of choices can distract the veiwer and discount
the effort it took to create the resulting clash of colors and textures.

In the same way, webmasters have many choices for what goes into
their pages.  They select banner exchanges, affiliate programs, link
exchanges, web ring associations and content. They pick the order
in which these things are presented, control the navigation through
a web page, and place the content they want visitors to see in their pages.

If you step back and look at your entire web page, do you like what you
see?   Will your visitors like it?  Does your website present the kind of
look that will attract your target audience?  Gardeners need bees to
spread pollen between flowers to insure blooms.  What kind of bees
to you hope to attract?  What kind of visitors are you seeking?

Do you have weeds that will repel your audience?

Weeds are things that don't flow with the overall look of your page?  
They attract the wrong groups of people, looking for the wrong things.  
Weeds are a waste of time and other assets.

We offer many resources on our pages that are designed to help
webmasters promote their web pages.  Whether it be our hundreds
of free classifed ad links, free for all links, awards, articles or free/paid
services, our focus is on getting traffic to the visitor's pages.  If we add
information about beenie babys or trucks or even gardening advice,
we would be planting a weed.   It would take time and attention away
from our true focus, online Internet success. 

There is nothing wrong with web pages about any subject matter.  The
web has space for all kinds of material.  It lets webmasters express
opinions about anything.   I am not suggesting you should select any
particular topic to cover in your web page.  I am suggesting you pick
a topic and complement that topic with all the extras you can choose
to put on a web page.

Effective web pages concentrate on one area.  That is key.   Extras
added to your page that you put there just because you can could be
weeds in your cyber-garden.   Let your visitors remember your site
for all the terrific stuff you have about your main topic.  Don't let them
forget you when you leave because visitors do not know what you
really want them to get from you and your website.

Look at your pages again.  Do you have elements that don't really mix
well together?  Should you consider getting another web page to
concentrate on X rather than force your visitors to waste time looking
at that when they are looking for Y?   Prune it.  Plant it elsewhere if
you must, but get it out of the way of your main focus or service.

Once you decide on your target audience, and what you want them
to learn, experience, know or buy, you can add things that will make
them sorry to leave and eager to return.   Continue to nurture and add
content that supplies the answers, methods or desires of your visitors,
and they will return, and suggest others do too.

Your garden will flourish and be successful.

Mixed Bag::

I appologize to those who may have followed the link to get your own free
classified site last week. I missed part of the URL. To get your web page

Sorry about my goof. Don't let my mistake cause you to overlook a great
opportunity for yourself.

I am sorry too about the apparent death of a affiliate program I was involved
with up until Saturday. On that day, I checked the tracking links for my sales for Virtual Merchant Card. Imagine my surprise when I was confronted
by a page that allowed me to file an email complaint instead. The program has suffered many problems over the past months. It appears that whatever good was supposed to happen has disappeared. After finding this government link where my sales stats should have been, I tried to use links on my page. They failed. So at my earliest convenience, I removed any of the links I had created for this program from my web pages, autoresponders, etc.I suggest you do the same.

Make a complaint, if you want. I did not. I had not counted on the sales I have had pending for so long. It is a shame, but at least I didn't have to
pay to get started with them. I liked the idea of a $150 commission per sale. I guess many of us did.

Making Money From What You Know

Everyone has something they want the world to know about.
An informational tips booklet is just one of many ways to
circulate that information. From there, that content can be
recycled over and over and over again into other saleable
formats, all without ever writing another new word of copy.
In the early 1990's when the US economy was in dismal
shape, so was the economy of  Organizing Solutions, Inc.,
a speaking and consulting company. On a 'zero budget'
(translation: flat broke!), a tips booklet called, "110 Ideas for
Organizing Your Business Life" was produced. Little did
anyone know that was the beginning of a journey of selling
over 400,000 copies in two languages without spending a
penny on advertising to do it. It actually spurred an entire
new business in the process.

The booklet contents came from things that were said to
clients or to audiences over a period of eight years, all
about getting organized. It was information people wanted
to know, and information that was absorbed well in small
amounts.

To accomplish these sales results, a  variety of marketing
methods were used. The first was sending a copy of the booklet
to national publications, inviting them to excerpt from the booklet,
and adding a tag line at the bottom inviting the reader to send a
small amount of money for their own complete copy.

Approximately 15,000 single copies were sold that way. Next,
major corporations were contacted to sell them large quantities
of the booklet, usually for their own promotional purposes, at
large quantity pricing discounts. About 50,000 copies were
sold this way.

Then things started really expanding. Non-exclusive rights to
reprint several hundred thousand copies were sold to a mail
order catalog company. At the same time, a connection was
made online with a marketing company in Italy, who licensed
the contents to create an Italian version of the booklet. Over
100,000 copies of the Italian version were sold to a magazine
who bundled it with one issue of their own publication as a
gift to their subscribers. The booklet contents have also been
licensed into several other languages and other physical
formats.  

At one point, a well known American public seminar company 
expressed interest in producing an audio program based on the
booklet.  The audio set has sold many copies unto itself. That
audio program also triggered a 20-minute interview on the
in-flight audio programming of a major airline for two months,
world-wide. Two companies who each produce laminated
guides also licensed the non-exclusive rights to the contents.
They then produced the product and pay royalties for all units
they sell.

There are still many ways to utilize the tips that were written
just once. They can show up as calendars, coffee mugs,
tee-shirts and any advertising specialty you can think of. They
can be licensed to a company as part of a radio, television or
print campaign, under the banner of "An organizing moment
brought to you by.........(the name of the sponsoring company)."
They could be made into an emroidery design, a poster, a
board game, CD, video, and truly endless other products and
applications.

You most likely already have copy from which to draw. Have
you ever written an article, given a speech or workshop, had
an article written about you, written a book or special report,
done an audio or video? All those formats can be transformed
into informational, bulleted tip format.

By recycling your contents, you will develop products at
different price points and in different formats, thereby always
having a 'yes' answer when someone wants some of what
you've got. You will also be responding to the range of learning
styles of the general population. Having your information in
print, audio, video, small type, larger type, with graphics,
without graphics -- all means you are broadening your appeal
to a wider audience.

The cost for developing products described in this article can
range from zero to a substantial amount, and everything in
between! Whenever possible, have the products developed on
someone else's budget by licensing your contents to them.

You may need to produce a small amount of finished product
first, just for the sake of distributing some well-perceived
samples. Adecision maker will sometimes decide merely from
reviewing a printed or electronic manuscript of your tips.
Regardless of the deals you make with others, be sure to
always keep the copyright in your own possession so you can
continue recycling the material without anyone else's limitation.

So, what do you already know a lot about that you want to share
with the rest of the world?  What do you already have that can
be recycled? You are sitting on a gold mine. Your new products
can serve as new profit centers, as marketing tools for your
