I made five separate purchases this week with my new
X.com credit card. No problems with the transactions at
all. I came back to the computer after shopping to find
my balance had been reduced by the correct amount and NOT
more than the correct amount. Frankly, I am thinking of
offering this method of payment for advertising in this
ezine or services rendered or whatever. I like it that
much as a CONSUMER. It is the wave of the future.
Now the BAD news. While this is working GREAT for you
who join (me included) it is a mess over in the affiliate
branch of the X.com operation. There are were several
reports of missing referral fees when new members join
using the link provided by X.com. THAT IS TERRIBLE.
Here is a response to another person who is sure he
missed some referral fees:

We have experienced some technical problems with the refer a
friend program. At this time, we do not have a mechanism to
track referrals. However, if you know the individuals that
have opened accounts against your referral we will gladly
deposit the bonus(s) in your account. Simply provide us with
their names or email addresses.

not know why I should)

Oh, OK, X.com. You have a BIG budget for getting new accounts
and ZERO dollars to put in place a reliable referral system?
Since you are going to be the cutting edge dot com bank, we
forgive you for not knowing how to track referrals. They
probably did not teach you that in "brick and mortar" bank
classes. Sure, that makes sense. Ever heard the phrase,
"Penny wise and pound foolish?" What I need from you folks
is to be sure we get these folks to pay you and I IF we bring
them more business. Maybe it would help if they hard-code
the referral information back into the page. A switch was
made which allows your referral to remove your email/referral
information. Bad on you X.com.
I KNOW there have been errors because I helped someone get
an account several days ago without getting credit, not
then, not now. Here is where I need you to help me. IF
you join X.com (which you should) or IF you have already
done so, and you join with my link, I need to know about
it. I need your name and/or the email address used to join.
DO NOT send me your password. Don't need it or want it.
Your money will be safe, but that information will help me
get the bank to recognize my referrals, I hope. This is

The 10 Laws for Writing Letters that Get Results

The following is a letter in response to a question about how
to write sales letters. This is something you could model in
layout, tone, and ideas, to write your own letters. By the way,
this is where your letterhead should go.
Dear Fellow Chicago Seminar Attendees,
Jerry Jenkins asked me to tell you how to write letters that
get read and get results. That's a tall order! Well, here's
what I think the "laws" are:
1. Know what's in it for your reader.
Get out of your ego and into your reader's ego. Complete this
sentence: "Get my book so that you can...(fill in the blank)."
Your book (or whatever you are selling) is the feature. What
people get as a result of having your book is the benefit.
Focus on benefits. Always! Without this, your letter will bomb.
2. Write a headline that telegraphs the key benefit to your
reader.
ALWAYS use a headline. There is only ONE exception to this rule.
When you personalize your letter, the "Dear (whoever)" opening
becomes your headline. There are few headlines more powerful
than the reader's own name. The headline is THE most important
part of your letter! Spend nearly all of your time on it.
3. Be brief.
Say what you have to say in terms of the reader's self interest
and shut up. This does NOT necessarily mean a short letter. If
you are trying to make a sale, and the reader has never heard
of you or your item for sell, you may have to write four or
more pages to get your message across. If all you want is a
return call, a one page letter may do. Don' be afraid of length.
People will read any length of copy AS LONG AS IT'S INTERESTING!
4. Always use a PS.
Always. Why do copywriters who charge upwards to $15,000 to
write a sales letter and have weeks to draft it always use a PS?
They are always read. Always.
5. Look good.
Visual attractiveness accounts for 70% of your letter's impact.
Use short sentences, short paragraphs, bulleted points, indented
paragraphs, subheads, etc. Some people will just skim your
letter, so engaging subheads and bulleted points help reach them
instantly.
6. Outline first.
Use a planning tool to help you think through your message. Or
talk to a friend. Or to a tape recorder. Or to yourself. This
also helps you get comfortable with speaking your letter rather
than writing it.
7. Write first, edit last.
Turn your inner editor off. You can rewrite later. For now,
write spontaneously and quickly to get your ideas on paper.
8. Ask for something.
Why are you writing? You want a call. Or an order. Something.
Say so!
9. Get a reader.
Find one person to read your letter OUT LOUD in front of you.
If he (or she) has trouble reading your letter, if he wrinkles
his brow or stops to reread a sentence, rewrite those places.
Don't skip this step! It's the secret of many professional
writers.
10. Rewrite your letter again.
Is it the best you can do? Be honest! If not, throw it away
and call the person instead. Or hire a copywriter to write it
for you. Why waste your time or your reader's with something
that doesn't communicate in a persuasive and interesting way?
(I rewrote this letter 24 times!)
Well, there you have it. Of course, there are more rules,
laws, ideas and suggestions for writing letters that get
results. You should always guarantee whatever you are selling,
for example, and always offer proof for all of your claims.
But the above will get you rolling.

Surfing for pay this week:
Mac users are now beginning to use the Mac version of the
AllAdvantage viewbar. That should help everyone up and
down the line. Allowing this dedicated, formerly excluded,
group to join the party of active surfers will be adding
hours and dollars to any downline, whether 1 or 1000.
Did you get yourself qualified for the 20% bonus from
ValuePay? There is a box you must check off in your own
information where you indicate you are a member of another
surf/get paid program. When you do, and when your new
signups do, you will earn 20% more. This assumes of course
that the Piggy ever gets out of the barn. Mine is still
hiding.
Utopiad members are starting to cash checks. I did not
qualify for this first quarterly payment. God bless the ones
who did. Hopefully by next quarter, the rates will make this
a good supplemental program for keeping something onscreen
while I do other things.
ItAddsUp software is apparently struggling to serve ads to those
who are willing to beta test for the 6 bucks. I am not, yet.
I have enough software in beta form loaded and open as it is with
better pay.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, BePaid, remember them ($20-160/HOUR), are
now saying that the new software will be ready for rollout in
February. The last version was TERRIBLE, I was almost willing
to pay them $20/hour to rid me of the problems. I think they
understood that, and I hope their software, whenever it is released
will reflect some major fixes. That is especially true since
I have a nice little downline started with them. We will see.
CashSurfers site popped back up this week. I continue to like
this one, but make no income guesses at this time. Elsewhere,
DotAd is MIA, and members (I am one) can't seem to enter the site.
I am thinking this one is heading south like
my favorite dog to kick, GoToWorld (where I am member with
hundreds of referrals - oh well). They are having a surfing
contest at this time that I did not tell you about because I
do not want to waste my space or your time.
Also getting checks this week? AllAdvantage folks (good!).
TechnoSurf early adopters also got some checks which were sent
automatically. BUT, from here on YOU have to request a check be
sent to you and they will do so IF you meet or exceed the minimums.
How? You gotta go to http://getpaid4.com/cgi-bin/gp_admin.pl where
you will find a log in screen, then links to update your info (mine
had NO NAME which I corrected), see stats, request a check or
quit the program. TechnoSurf is changing to Advertising.com FYI.
Ignifuge, one of my favorites, because it is quick and easy, now has
competition from across the pond. PayUStart, part of the PaysU
program now also has a "get paid for a start page" program that works
like Ignifuge. Looks like I can increase my income if I add the
PaysUStart page to the Ingifuge page and hop from one another from
time to time during the day. The PaysU software is beta testing
now with high praise from users. Bigger release is expected, but
not promised for February.
Qool.com finally allowed me to give them shipping directions for
2 hours of free long distance which I "won" by bidding with my
Qool coins in their auction. I had not been able to do that before
two days ago. Now we will see if they get here.
How did you do? I got 196 direct and 93 indirect referrals in
mValue's contest. That should qualify me for a check for $1000.
I am also hoping that I will qualify for the "early evangelist"
award (my term) for being one of the first 1000 to refer 5 new
members. IF you joined me in this little contest, I hope you did
as well. The check will not be "in the mail" for 90 days, but I
will be happy to see it whenever. Thanks to all you who joined
this effort using my link. I REALLY appreciate that and hope some
of you were able to cash in too. I believe the minimum needed
was about 11 members or 22,000 points.
New this week to me:
ClickDough pays you to use a "personal window" that is NOT
software based. They are paying 8 levels deep and have no
limit on hours. Join today and you can be earning in minutes.
In theory, if you join, and you get three, and each of those
get three, their calculator shows a decent income for about
30 hours online per month. As with all of these programs, the
proof is in performance not the promise. We'll see.
IF YOU DO GO, please go to the X.com link on my BIG LIST link
below (FREE $20). For you doubters, this is what I predict will
be the first of many to use X.com in promoting and soon paying
affiliates. With or without X.com, I really like this one.
RadioFreeCash is also new this week. This mixes the idea of
paying you for accepting advertising and the relatively new idea
of web-based radio programs. You get paid an hourly rate (20 cents)
and an hourly rate for the hours your referrals listen too. This
assumes that you have the power to deal with web radio reception,
and that you won't mind hearing whatever is being broadcast to you.
There will be a requirement to click a button about every 15 minutes
and you can apparently miss 1 of 4 per hour and still get credit.
I like this idea, and I think this is a good bet for "first-mover"
credit and positioning. The surf/get paid crowd is big and getting
bigger. These guys are all alone for the moment, but probably not
for long.
SurfAd popped up this week too. Rumors were rampant that entire
downlines were lost for this formerly dormant program. I went to
check my account, I am there. Referrals? None. Hadn't told a
soul about this one, until now. The idea seems to be that you
will click on the banner being served at least one time each hour.
Click more, earn more. Click too much, get kicked out (probably).
Referrals earn you money too on this shared revenue program.

Why the Internet is an Entrepreneurs' Dream

Last summer a vacation that entailed travelling across much
of the U.S. helped me reflect a bit about my Internet business
and reminded me of some of the advantages of doing business
online. Let's consider just a few of them...
1) Generate Multiple Self-Sustaining Income Streams
While I was on vacation, my online business continued to make
money. The Internet allows you to generate multiple streams of
income that are more or less on autopilot; an advantage which
most types of businesses (and jobs) simply don't offer.
2) Internet Businesses are Portable
As I tossed around the possibility of relocating to the
beautiful countryside area that I visited on vacation, I was
reminded how most people are geographically tied to their jobs.
Unfortunately, where they live is largely dictated by where
they work. And if they don't live near their jobs, lots of
commuting is required, which is often a major headache.
However, if you earn your income online, you have the
flexibility of living and working most anywhere that you want,
as long as you have Internet access. There aren't many
businesses or jobs that allow much freedom to choose where you
live.
Since you can operate an online business from home, your
commute to work may involve nothing more than a leisurely
stroll from your breakfast table to your desktop computer. No
traffic hassles, office politics, or related headaches.
3) Low Startup and Overhead Expenses
Low startup and overhead expenses mean low risk. If you try
opening a retail store, manufacturing plant or other offline
business, chances are you'll need several thousand dollars
just to open your doors, let alone pay the monthly bills. Not
so with an Internet business, which you can start, build,
promote and maintain on a shoestring budget. My basic recurring
expenses include web hosting and Internet access, totaling
well under $100 per month.
4) Tremendous Marketing Reach
Of course, one of the greatest advantages is the ability to
reach very large numbers of prospects online. Statistics vary
based on who you listen to, but the numbers of existing
Internet users are staggering, not to mention the new users
that sign on daily.
I could go on and on about the various advantages of an online
business, but you get the point. If you've been thinking about
starting your own Internet venture, keep the above advantages
in mind. They are just a few of many that make the Internet an
entrepreneurs' dream.
