A message from this week's Top Sponsor:
What FORCES FAMOUS internet MARKETERS who usually
COMPETE with each other for online attention WORK
TOGETHER on the SAME TEAM? Why would well known
success stories decide to add one new program to
what they are already doing? Why bother? Is it
worth it? Yes. If the one program is THIS ONE.
*Thanks yet again for your kind words this last week.
Thanks to those of you who expressed concern for our
gravely ill family member. After an extended battle
with disease, that person passed away on Thursdays. I
have spent much of the last week with family and friends
saying goodbye to the body, remembering his spirit and
praying that he now finds his peace with the Lord. I
hope to be caught up by this time next week.
*Even with limited time this week, I can tell you that
my marketing efforts have been MUCH MORE effective as I
continue to learn to harness the power of two amazing
tools from Mark Joyner. The Affiliate Assistant is the
program I mentioned last week that allows you to put in
the important information about your affiliate programs,
whether you are involved in 1 or 1000, and this software
keeps your information organized, and if you use it right,
it will make your affiliate programs profitable. Maybe for
the first time for some of you, you will be able to see
EXACTLY what you should and should not be DOING to earn
money online. A program that can provide this level of
information should be worth 100 times more than its price. http://www.roibot.com/w.cgi?R258_affa
See how one man increased his sales with Affiliate Assistant
by $765 in ONE month. People like Allan Gardyne (Associate
Programs) and Michael Campbell (Nothin' But Net) are excited
about what the software does, AND there is a VERY lucrative
affiliate plan to boot. Those of you who jumped on this tool
last week know what the experts like about this wonderful
software. Go "kick the tires" with no risk. I like it a lot. http://www.roibot.com/w.cgi?R258_affa
*My cyber life has gotten much easier over the last couple
weeks because I have been happily experimenting the other
new tool in the tool chest, my tracking software. There IS a
difference between "hoping to make a sale" and "selling on a
consistent, dependable, earn a living on the net" basis. The
difference between striking out and striking gold is TESTING.
To test you must be able to track your advertising efforts.
To track, USE this free and see for yourself. http://www.roibot.com/w.cgi?R258_ROIbot
*I hope to get word to you this week about a really exciting
new venture, and I am looking for partners. If you want to
beat the rush, send an email to me at: mailto:chris@stealthpromotions.com?subject=Beat_The_Clock
That is NOT an autoresponder, but I will type out a personal
response to you as quickly as I am ready. This is going to
be BIG, and is exploding now. More when you contact me.
*Free DSL coming? Got an email this week to let me know I
should be sure my contact information is correct because
they would be in contact soon regarding installing the service.
I am guessing that Austin is as good a bet as any to be an
experimental market for the service. Wonder if they may be
coming to your city too? The best way is to join, download
the software and see. http://www.stealthpromotions.com/af/dsl.htm
*I am adding a new section this week to this ezine. It is
called "Pro-Motion" by Dr. jl scott (that is her spelling). jl
has worked to bring a higher level of professionalism to the
net, and will be presenting information in a question and
answer format. I would like to know if you find it helpful or
if you think I am crazy to try to stuff more bytes into this
full ezine. Let me hear from you on this. I will decide to
keep it or not within a few issues, so if you have an opinion
one way or the other, better let me know right away. Feel free
to shoot her a question. Maybe your question will be one she
addresses in her guest column.
How to Track Your Ads - No Log Analyzer or CGI Scripts
Required by Mark Joyner, CEO, Aesop Marketing Corporation
I'm embarrassed.
Months back I wrote an article that showed various tricks
for tracking your ad campaigns online. The truth is, what
I recommended then was a bit tedious - only complete
marketing geeks like myself will really go through all that
trouble to track their marketing.
Most people just don't have the time. They want a quick
fix that will allow them to track their campaigns without
any hassle.
Finally, I can present to you just such a tool. Keep in
mind, this is not a "hit counter" or anything like that at
all. This is something far more useful for the online marketer.
Here are some simple steps you can follow to start testing your
marketing immediately:
Enter your target URL and campaign name. Click on save.
Note: Your target URL is the link you want to promote, or the
place you want the web surfer to end up as a result of your
advertising.
3. ROIbot will then give you a new URL to use in place of your
target URL.
4. Promote using this new URL and let ROIbot track the results.
I'm embarrassed by how simple this is. What I recommended in my
old "Tracking Tricks" article took about 3 pages to explain and
actually did *less* than what ROIbot can do for you. Isn't that
simple and cool?
Now, here are some added benefits and some cool ways you can use
this new tool:
1. Do you participate in any affiliate programs? Chances are,
the affiliate program does not provide you with adequate tools
to keep track of your marketing campaigns. Further, if you are
participating in a pay per click program, you can use ROIbot to
double check the number of clicks and keep your affiliate
program manager honest.
2. All ROIbot campaigns are also automatically rated in the
"Web's Most Clicked" independent rating system. This is a
cool new way to measure Internet trends and popularity levels.
You'll get tons of free traffic when you're listed there:
3. Have you ever wondered which browsers and operating
systems people visiting your site were using? ROIbot will give
you this information and break it down by campaign. Now,
whenever someone says "x percentage of the net is using x
browser or x OS", you can say, "that's funny, according to
my ROIbot report, it's really...." This makes you B.S. proof.
4. Do you use opt-in email to advertise your site? Now you
can know exactly how many clicks occurred as a result of each
of your email campaigns. If you pay for any type of email
advertising, this is a must.
Some advertising companies are very deceptive about the results
of your ad campaigns. For example, I once consulted for a
company that ran a top level ad in a newsletter that claimed
the message went to 200,000+ recipients. We tracked the
campaign and it brought in less than 20 clicks. Of course
we never advertised with them again. If we hadn't tracked
it, we never would have known! Campaigns like that can bleed
your business to death. A tracking tool like this can be
used to protect yourself. Now you can know definitively
which campaigns work and boost your ROI.
5. The same can be said for banner ads. I would *never*
trust the tracking software provided by the company that's
selling me the ads. That is even if they provide tracking
at all. Frankly, I don't care how many impressions were
delivered. I want to know how many valid clicks came in for
every dollar spent.
Apply this information to your marketing immediately.
I promise that if you follow my advice your profits will
increase and you will save hundreds of man hours. But you
have to do it!
Found an interesting online guide to advertising this week
somehow. There is a pitch for his paid services at the end,
but before that you get some pretty useful content. If you
can drop by and spend some time, I think it is worth your
while. http://www.nettally.com/mktg/intro.html
Yahoo is now going into the free ISP service business following
AltaVista. Can this mean they are eyeing the surf/get paid
market too? I wonder. Anyway, if you are tired of your $20 or
so going out to whoever for your dialup service, you might drop
to see their offer, assuming the hackers don't have them offline
of course. http://www.yahoo.com

Surfing for pay this week:
I am going to experiment in a group advertising program for
AllAdvantage starting in March. I will let you know how much
bang for the buck I get. The "buy-in" price was $50 minimum,
and I wanted to test it before telling you how to get in if
it works. While I might normally worry about having someone
else handle advertising for AA, especially in light of the
apparently system-wide email warning about SPAM, I am confident
in the people handling this campaign because they grew their
long down lines the old-fashioned way like me. They worked for
there members, and continue to offer help so others succeed.
The latest victim of SPAM? ProcessTree. I mentioned them in
passing last week. Since then, I got an email telling me that
the lost several days of referral info because their site was
shut down (without notice) for the misdeeds of about 16 @#!#
members who decided to tell the world about them with SPAM.
The site is back up and you should send your information (your
name, member number, and the "partner" number of your recent
referrals) to mailto:admin@processtree.com ONLY IF your signups
were numbered between 3351-5000 or so.
In an email from the president of ClickDough, members were given
some idea of the explosive growth that has taken place in the
last month. I am NOT one of the big boys on this one, but I AM
looking forward to seeing what kind of payrate we can expect in
March. Remember, this is the no software required (therefore
available to everyone) unlimited surf time program. It is
offered only in the US at the moment but that is expected to
change. I still really like this one too, and the best thing is
that the explosive growth now is only a fraction of what is
possible in the future. Give a try. I think you will like it. http://www.stealthpromotions.com/af/cd.htm
Cudos to GetPaid4 who FINALLY seem to have a handle on stats.
It is humbling to "lose" so many phantom referrals. Oh well.
The truth is always the best.
I am adding a new link to my Ignifuge hot links group. One for
Qool. I will get 100 Qool Coins each day I log in, and since I
already use Ignifuge for a jumping off point at least 10 times a
day, I will be able to add 3000 coins to my balance every month.
The coins can be used at auctions and you are also paid 25 coins
for each bid on the variety of items offered on their site.
Question emailed to BigReferral this week: "When do we move from
recruiting to paying?" Answer: "Late February." We'll see. When
I went to check current stats, the page would not load. They did
send an email to me this morning, saying rollout is soon.
Elsewhere, Utopiad is running a contest with a Palm III or $300
as the prize. Drawing is on the 29th of this month (remember
February has 29 days this year), and you can enter daily.
Still elsewhere, Spedia is claiming to be paying some "premium"
members $.70 US/hour. Bull. I have been beating the bushes to
find even ONE single member getting paid at this rate. They seem
to be pulling a GoToWorld. 'Nuff said. GoToWorld announced they
had a $1000 first place winner & 5 $100 second place winners. I
guess they got the money by not paying the rest of us.
New to me this week:
What do you get when you combine GoTo.com and Ingifuge?
You might get this new program. The idea is that you can be paid
to do your searches online. You can only do 10 searches per day.
Once your search result appears, you are told exactly how much you
will be paid to visit a site (a valid visit = 20 seconds or more).
They are paying you a portion of the money paid by advertisers
who are getting targeted traffic for the keywords they have bid
on. The more money the advertiser pays, the more money in the
pot to divide with you. You are also paid for four levels of
referrals. Put your link into the list of hot links in your
Ignifuge page and you can probably do at least 5 searches daily.
In their example, if you get 3, and they get 3 and so on to fill
your four levels, and you all do 5 paid searches/day, you will add
about $100/month. If you can get a bigger group, you will do better,
and if their business model follows the GoTo example, the prices
and your income should increase. Seems like just yesterday you
could buy keywords on GoTo for a penny. Those bargains are harder
to find. I know. I am buying hits from them now. I like this one. http://www.roibot.com/w.cgi?R258_fn

I have hesitated to share this with you, but I in
a bit of foul mood this week anyway, and I wanted
to share with you something that has me a bit ticked off.
I have been putting FUN pages together for a while
and not just because they are fun to share and I
get nice comments in the guestbook. I also earn a
decent chunk of change each month because I utilize
a free service that pays me when others send my FUN
pages on to others. That is why I also created the
TOP 100 FUN page index, as a way to draw traffic to
my own pages and the pages of participating publishers.
It has been great, until this week.
I received a copy of an email sent behind my back to
each webmaster who has their site listed on the index
by someone who spoke before they thought. I got the
copy because one of the webmasters is making $2000 to
$4000 each month using the same service I do. Since I
was the one who told her about the service, I guess she
is thankful to me 2000-4000 times a month, lol. We are
now friends, and she sent this on to me:

WOW. Pretty much tells the webmasters who are building
traffic to their fun pages by listing their sites on my
index page what a low-life I am, as I am apparently being
pointed out as an example of how NOT to succeed online in
creating funny pages. IF only that was true.
As a reforming lawyer, you know I have a response. I also
have a pretty good defense, based on the truth, lol. The
truth is that MY SMOOCH page was published BEFORE Ms. Darling
(don't you love that name <g>) created her page. For those
of you who want to investigate this kind of thing, here are
a few FACTS.
I told members of my ListBot group who get first notice of new
FUN pages on 1/22/2000 which is also archived in ListBot
archives (You may need to cut and paste this loooooong URL to
get it all.)
http://www.listbot.com/cgi-bin/customer?Act=view_message&

Question: How can I be stealing an idea from someone if my page
was online first?
Here is the email I sent Ms. Darling (and her undarling note to
me.) This response was sent early, early on February 12, after
I had a chance to investigate a little. Notice I did not realize
I had told you folks to visit my "smooch" page in this
newsletter, or I would have added that information too. Not
that it matters. It seems Ms. Darling had already sent emails
to the webmasters with pages in the index and who ever else she
thought appropriate. My response is between the + signs:
+++++++++++++++++++
Interesting comments Cary,
Your "original" idea appears from the page to have been posted on
February 1, 2000. I have NEVER even been to your page until you
raised this accusation, but I assume that is when you loaded
your page online. (Good job driving hits to it. Looks like you
have 4 times the traffic to your clown kissing page as I do to
mine. I hope you MailBits money is four times as much too.)
You said:
"Come on now you couldn't come up with a more original page than
that. After visiting my site and seeing my Virtual Smooch Page.
.. you didn't even have the brain power to change the color of
the back ground."
When I looked at my clown page in my Front Page editor this
morning, it tells me the last changes were made about JANUARY
21, 2000. I am sure I published my page then. I think that
is about 9-10 days BEFORE you put your page online? Wonder
how that happened? How did I post a page I "ripped off" from
you, 9-10 days before you had it online?
Was I a fortune teller?
Nope.
Here's what happened. We both found the kissing clown gif. We
both thought it was a cute one and would make a good MailBits
page. We both decided to use one of the basic colors offered
to us for a background by FrontPage. You use a kiss. I use
music. Neither of us is the FIRST person to think it would
be neat to create a page to send to others.
Its kind of funny. I have a Listbot list that I have been
using to tell people when I put up new pages. I thought it was
a good idea to keep people coming back. I NEVER thought about
using it to prove the DATE of my putting a page online. But in
this case, I guess the PUBLIC archives go to prove my point
again. I see you are using ListBot too, which is another good
idea for both us. (IF you send out messages, you might want
to let others see the old messages by making them public. I
tried to look at yours, but did not see any) I bet we each
thought of that without help from the other too. Anyway, since
you use them, I know you know how the archives work? There is
not a way that I know of to modify them once posted. Make them
public or not? Yes. Modify what they say? No.
Here is the note I sent out when I put the clown page online.
You can find it at this address, although you may need to cut
and paste to get the whole address in.
For the moment, we do not have the signup box for this
newsletter, since you guys are all family. We will probably
add that in a couple days.
We are so pleased to be able to contact you from time to time
with new fun pages. We hope you enjoy them. Please feel
free to send our pages to your friends. That will help support
the site and help our family to grow.
Thanks.
Be safe, keep smiling and we will be back in touch soon.
Chris]
You said:You should be embarrassed and ashamed.
Do you still feel that way? After learning that if anything,
since my page was up BEFORE yours, you borrowed the idea from
me? Cary, please don't accuse me of stealing your pages ever
again. That wasn't true this time, and it won't be in the
future.
You said:I want you to remove me from your top 100 list
immediately. I would tell people about your sorry unoriginal
butt...however it would only serve to give your lame butt
attention.
You are deleted.
Cary, I would be more careful next time before I make
accusations like you did. You don't know me, so you don't know
how it hurts to have a stranger accuse you of stealing from a
page you have never even seen before. Usually, you can't prove
a negative. If I had just written back to say, "Cary, I did not
rip off your page. I am sorry if you think I did.", YOU might
not believe me. That is YOUR problem not mine. The more pages
you build dear, the more often they will look like someone
else's. Don't assume YOU are the only one with an original
idea. That is not always true.
Sincerely,
Sorry butt Chris Kilian
IF you decide to add you page back to the index, you may.
IF you wish to add to this conversation, you may.
IF you wish to avoid any further contact, you may.
IF you wish to level another false accusation.
Do that with someone else. OK?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
THAT response was sent after Ms. Darling sent the following to
me. I was not aware that she had slandered me in her emails to
others at the time. Her curt note does not indicate she will
do that.
Did I ever hear back from her? Nope.
Did she take back her lies sent to the other webmasters? Nope.
Here is her one and only communication with me:

Come on now you couldn't come up with a more original page than
that. After visiting my site and seeing my Virtual Smooch Page.
..you didn't even have the brain power to change the color of
the back ground.
You should be embarrassed and ashamed.
I want you to remove me from your top 100 list immediately. I
would tell people about your sorry unoriginal butt...however it
would only serve to give your lame butt attention.
That is the end of her personal unfounded, untrue attack on me.
The lesson?
I don't know. How about, "If you build it right, they will
come, but they won't all be happy about getting there," or
"Remember when you point a finger to accuse someone else, you
have four more fingers pointing back at you?"
I know that several of you subscribers also list pages in the
index of FUN pages, and that you probably got this email. I
first thought about sending emails to all the members of the
index, but decided that was too much work for too little of a
matter. MOST of you know that I did not get to whatever level
I am at by swiping other pages. Although, maybe I am stealing
a page from Allan Gardyne or UK Jerry, fellow editors who
sometimes air out the dirty laundry tossed at them <g>.
In a perfect world, each of you 3200+ subscribers would drop by
MY SMOOCH page and send it on to Ms. Darling with a note to
mend her ways. An eye for an eye, that sort of thing. I live in
an imperfect world, and if you really did that, she would
probably sue me for causing her to be SPAMMED. DON'T DO IT.
Let's just leave Ms. Darling alone.
Really, I just wanted to share with you that trouble pops up
for all of us from time to time, and I guess I wanted to vent
a bit.
I wish Ms. Darling well. I just wish her well far away from
me.
Q. Why do I hear that we should use a physical address
rather than a P.O. box on our business web sites?
A. Let me put it this way: assume that you received a letter by
regular mail. This is a sales letter asking you to buy
something. All you find in the letter is a postal mail box
number where you are to send the money. No company name - no
physical address - no telephone number. Would you buy the
product? No? Why not?
The same principles hold true for online business as for off-
line companies. We want to know who we're doing business
with - and where they are. The reasons are obvious. This is
how we feel safe from scams.
I realize that some online business owners work from home and
are concerned for their safety - or that of their family. If
that is the case, I can't insist that physical addresses be
used. However a PRIVATE postal service - clearly labeled,
"Mailing Address," will at least give your company a look of
higher professionalism.
Q. I'd like to join a particular affiliate program with a high
commission schedule. It looks very promising but the only
contact information they offer is by email. Do you think
that is enough?
A. Absolutely not! If you sell the product of this program, the
money will be collected by the parent company. Your earned
commissions are then held until time for you to be paid.
Where is your money?
Let's assume that you do really well with sales. Maybe
you've even done some paid advertising but you have a
commission check coming for hefty amount. What if your check
fails to arrive?
How are you going to collect the money that is now owed to
you? Via email? Are you going to send the company an email
- and really expect a response? What if your response is the
email returned as undeliverable? You have invested time and
maybe money in this program - for what?
ANY company that is holding the money of anyone else has a
responsibility to make their complete identity, location and
telephone number available to their associates. In this
instance, postal mail boxes of any kind are not acceptable
unless a physical address is also made public!
If they want to hide something - don't let it be your money!
