Surfing for pay this week:
Regular readers of this section know I normally lead this
section with AllAdvantage news. Not this week.
This week, the most exciting announcement comes from mValue.
After getting about 5 million dollars in new capital, they
have decided to make a few changes. Last week, I complained
that the months should end, well, like the calendars do. That
is going to happen, starting with this month. The current
surfing period will end at the end of this month. Good.
WAY BETTER, mValue has positioned itself to send out checks
every month. How? raise the surfing hours limit. Effective
now, as members who got this week's email know, the hours
for this period are limited to 25 (same as AllAdvantage and
the same rate at AllAdvantage), BUT BETTER STILL? Next month,
April, mValue starts paying surfers up to 40 hours. This is
a MAJOR step forward in my opinion for you and I the surfers.
With a stated rate of $0.50/hour, every surfer will meet the
$20 minimum if they surf the 40 hours. Surfaholics rejoice.
In the meantime, they are actively hunting down the $1000
referral contest winners...watching my email for happy news.
Meanwhile, over at AllAdvantage, they are in the final stages
of using a follow up email system for new members. This is
designed to cut down on the fake submissions by some of the
less than honest members. Soon, your new members will have
to "activate" their membership by revisiting the AA site with
a special link sent in a welcome email. Those that fail to
follow up might as well not have signed up at all. They will
be purged from the system. While I do not favor this extra
level of steps, if it cuts down on the hanky panky and saves
AA some money for the rest of us, I guess I will accept it.
Elsewhere, my advertising coop is getting some results. You
may recall I plunked down some cash to participate with others
with the idea we would all buy some big ads and see what
happens. Halfway through the month, the account that is the
easiest to track (because no other promotion is going on) has
jumped from 2 to 7 direct referrals and 2 indirects. There
were no indirects before. So the net is about 6 people in
15 days with more ads running now. At this rate, we will have
12 in the month. Is that worth $50? Probably not in the short
run. Of course the dream is that your next referral is one
who goes on to build a huge organization. If so, $50 is cheap.
RadioFreeCash took this week to do a little face lift on their
site this week. The cleaner, friendlier design is a good sign.
I am really looking forward to putting this program into the
group of programs I "work" during the month of April. Like
all the programs before they start, the calculator makes the
potential look great. Of course, reality seems to be that
your downline group will get about 10% of the benefit or
maximum payment potential. If everyone would just use the
program an average of 3 hours everyday, I would be making
several thousands each month. I would not be surprised to see
a couple hundred monthly, and every little bit helps. What
about you? Still sitting on the fence with this program?

Also getting some face lift time - Value Pay. There is now
a link that reports time surfed, which would imply someone
somewhere is getting and using the Piggy. Rumors are flying
that more pigglets are being released, and life around the
farm could be returning to normal. Don't hold your breath.
It would be nice, and the browser I played with when I could
was slick, but I need to see more progress to believe again.
Over at DeskTop Dollars, the new "Clix Card" as a payment
method is being rolled out. This is supposed to make member
money available around the world at ATMs. We will see. They
have removed the surfing time limits by the way. So they are
now in the unlimited time category. That is an improvement,
and so is the latest version of their software. Yet for some
reason, I am still not real keen on them. I guess I want to
see money before I get all excited again.
Meanwhile, Utopiad claims to be sending out $93,000 to about
1200 members for the second quarterly payment. That sounds
about right to me. I just check my stats there and expect to
get a check for a bit more than the average of about $40.
Still elsewhere, ePIPO has re-opened its member area which
had been under construction for so long. The down time cost
surf time and earnings. We will have to see if things pick
up. I have not tested the software for some time.
Still elsewhere, GetPaid4 continues to find new "partners"
that they feel a need to tell members about. Some report that
new signups can "opt-out" of these informative mailings. If
given the choice, do. If not, being a member of GetPaid4
has its problems. I am expecting my second check from them
soon.
ClickDough is due to release information about money to be
paid for their initial surfing period today. You should be
able to see just what your time with their "no download" ad
delivery system is worth.
Finally got my secret codes for 30 minute long distance calls
from Qool.com where I "won" the auction for 4 different calling
cards. Didn't spend any cash to get them, so I guess they are
sort of free. Qool is now giving away 100 "Cool Coins" each
day you log in to your account by the way and up to 250 more
when you successfully bid on items up for auction like long
distance.

Using Affiliate Programs to Test Your Advertising
Strategy
Advertising is an investment in your company. Why
do companies advertise? To improve their image, to
increase their customer base and to make sales.
Why do most companies "really" advertise? To
increase sales!
Think of how much money your company spends on
advertising in a year. A three-month contract in
the local newspaper can cost about $2000 for an
1/8-page ad. A campaign on your favorite radio
station can run up to $3000, an ad in your state
magazine can run up to $7200 and cable TV
advertising can cost even more.
Let's take a look at the world of online
advertising. If you are advertising on a major
portal, the minimum amount you would invest is
about $2000. Advertising on smaller targeted
oriented sites can still cost you anywhere from
$60-$500 per month, depending on the site's
traffic.
Whether online or off, unless you have an
effective ad campaign in place, your advertising
dollars are going to waste. Your ads have to be in
the right place, at the right time, with the right
sales message.
The Internet provides you with so many effective
measuring tools that can't be found in the offline
advertising world. You can actually tell how many
people have viewed your ad, clicked on it and if
they purchased something from you, and you can
track it all in real time! You can test! And you
don't need an ad agency or a web "techie" to do
it!
Another way to advertise online is through
Performance Based Marketing, also known as an
affiliate program. Performance based marketing is
taking the industry by storm!. You can actually
advertise your products and services across
thousands of web sites while only paying for
results! You can test which ads increase traffic,
which ads sell and which ads are a total flop!
Investing in an affiliate program can drive
traffic to your site, increase your audience reach
and increase your online revenue, but probably the
most overlooked factor of an affiliate program is
that it allows you to test your ad campaigns
effectively, saving you time and money.
Affiliate programs provide you with the vehicle
and a captive audience to do just that. Investing
in an affiliate program, even if you don't make
one sale can be the most important investment your
company will make in it's online advertising
strategy!
Why? Because affiliate programs allow you to test
what works and what doesn't!
The key to any online advertising
strategy is to "fail quickly", so you can then
test what really works. Affiliate programs provide
you with the vehicle and a captive audience to do
just that, and the crime of it all is you can do
it without paying any up front advertising fees.
You only pay for ads that perform well enough to
give you a qualified lead or generate a sale.
If you could do this in the offline world, I know
a lot of newspapers and magazines that would be
out of business right now! Chances are very good
that while you are doing all that testing, you are
going to make some sales as well!

Answers for the "Pro in Motion"
Q. Last week you mentioned that we should file for a company
name for our online businesses. Could you please tell us
how to do that? (Angie B.)
A. I wish there were a simple answer to this but like most
government regulated issues - it's complicated. In the USA,
these filings are called by various names. "DBA" (Doing
Business As) - "Registered Alias" - "Assumed Name Statement" -
and "Fictitious Name Registration" are just four that I've
encountered. In other countries, they probably have even
different documents - if they are required at all.
In some States, you will need to file with the County where you
live. In other States, you file with the State itself. Some
places require that you publish your intent to file a particular
name - and others don't have this requirement. The cost for
this is usually nominal in a legal publication. Filing fees are
also very nominal. Cost is never prohibitive.
The paperwork is very simple - usually one short page. You'll
need to have your signature notarized.
If the requirement for you is to file with the State, you can
call the appropriate agency and ask them to send you the
paperwork. You will then return it to them by mail and they
will send you a final copy with the State or County Seal on it.
If you must file in the County where you live, you may be
required to go to the County Courthouse to file. In that case,
you will walk out with the paperwork in your hand.
One reader wrote to tell me that his bank filed his Fictitious
Name Registration for him. This was in a location which
requires filing with the State - easily done by mail. That's a
great service for a bank to offer where it's possible.
Which brings us to how and where you file. The easiest and
quickest thing to do is call the "New Accounts" department at
your bank. Tell them you need a business bank account - and ask
what paperwork they need. They will be able to tell you the
correct document and where to obtain it. Then, call the
appropriate agency for further directions per your local laws.
Remember, in the USA you can't have a business bank account
without this document. You can't accept payment in the name of
your company and deposit it directly into your personal account.
It's the law!
