Editor Ramblings:

*Bill Burdin did some housecleaning this week of the
free classified sites that are part of our little
family. About 20% of the sites that were being shown
were removed because they were never actually set up.
I have had nothing but good things happen with the
free classified site, and it has shown thousands of
my banners FREE to visitors who are looking to add
their ad to the classifieds. If you do not have this
tool in your net toolbox, you should. It does help
draw traffic. If you feel a bit more ambitious, you
can become the sponsor of your own network for less
than you would be paid if you sold an item or two
from your banner being shown. This continues to be
a terrific advertising medium, and I highly recommend
you get involved. You can do so by going here:
http://www.stealthpromotions.com/af/le.htm

*Speaking of good guys. The rest of you can skip
this paragraph. Guy (I know you are a subscriber)
I DID get a chance to look at the new program coming
from you folks at RoiBot. I DID get a chance to see
the tremendous value you are offering. In fact, once
I looked at the web site, I couldn't help but join the
course.

*I was privileged to be one of the first to get a peek
at a new web site this week. I do not think it will
be the last to use the increasing technology available
on the web, but it may be one of the most important
because it offers a key ingredient that often missing
on the web today..the ability to write "Killer Copy."

Perhaps one of the most interesting trends I see online
is the ability of anyone with ambition to increase skills
by use of "distance learning." In the old days, OK, the
really, really old days, if you wanted to increase your
skill in some area of your professional or personal life,
YOU had to go see the teacher. Depending on the skill you
needed the teacher could have been at a college, a seminar,
a convention, or if you couldn't get to the teacher that
way, in a book.

Each of these training methods had some pieces missing.
In the first three settings, the group size might have
decreased the value of what you got out of a particular
course because the teacher had to aim his message at the
middle of the pack, hoping the advanced student would not
be bored and the slower student could keep up. With books,
you have to imagine what the teacher means. None of these
learning methods can mix elements in a way that delivers
real learning to the student.

Thank goodness you and I are now past the really, really
old days.

Using the expertise of a master copywriter, the benefits of
a multidimensional presentation, and the concentration of
you the student, you can now learn to write killer that
can make a difference in the results you are getting online
(or off.)

David Garfinkel is now offering an interactive course that
is spread out over a 12 week period. He is willing to take
me (and you if you want) by the hand, so to speak, and show
us where we can improve in creating copy writing that moves
products and services from our web sites to the customer.

The first week's course was captivating, and I expect nothing
less for the next 11 sessions.

If you think you could use some help in writing copy that
sells, take a look. If the thought of writing sales copy that
makes your offer irresistible seems as far off as David would
be before this method of "distance-learning" became feasible,
take a look.

Good advertising copy sells.

Great copy sells more.

Killer copy writing creates fortunes.

That is what I intend to learn, and I fully expect to be able
to produce killer copy once I complete this course.

If your web site sales do not indicate you already "know it
all," I invite you to join the course with me.

ANNOUNCING THE OPENING OF....TA....TA...TA....DAAA!

The TWO DOLLAR ADS PROGRAM!!!

http://www.twodollarads.com?nl

We have given birth to a new site over the past few days.
We call it Two Dollar Ads, and it is offers something
of value for two very different groups of folks. We are
meeting the biggest demand for advertisers and ezine
editors.

1. Advertisers.

It is now possible to get YOUR ad in some top notch ezines
for only $2.00 per ad. That is right. $2.00 each.

The ads are being sold in groups of five ezines at time so
the minimum is a $10.00 order. We currently have 13 ezines
with a current subscriber base of 16,842 subscribers, and YOU
can now advertise with all of these for only $20.00.

As we update the ezine groups, we will be changing the groups
of ezines. Once we are a bit further along, we expect to see
ezine groups of 5-7 ezines. Each group will be sold at a $10
ad price. YOUR ad will be seen in 5 (or more ezines) for $10.

Thus the name...Two Dollar Ads.

These are NOT little ads either. The ads our publishers will
run for you can be as big as 5 lines (55 characters per line)
PLUS your URL PLUS your email/autoresponder information.

BE FOREWARNED!

You may NEVER see a better value for your ad dollars beyond the
next update to the web site. I have been in contact with a
number of unlisted ezines who are interested in free subscribers,
and once I update the sight, I expect the ezine group
subscriber counts to go down. This advertising deal will
continue to be an unbeatable value, but not quite as good as it
is for YOU right now.

You are getting the FIRST opportunity to take advantage of this
program. (IF I can't give you, my current subscribers, my very
best value, who can I give it to?)

If you buy one ad in each of our 13 ezines before April 15, 2000
for $20.00, your cost per subscriber will be

$20.00/16,842 subscribers = $.001/per subscriber for your ad.

I do not know what you are selling, but folks a 1% response
is 168 responses. If you can't turn a profit on that, you
may need a different product.

Beyond the incredibly low priced ad, we are currently ALSO
offering some bonuses when you order. I have seen the bonuses
ALONE valued at WAY more than the price we are asking for
advertising to the whole group, and frankly, I do not know if
I can continue to "give away the store" like this. You better
move before I come back to my senses.

What is the catch?

Publishers NEED subscribers. YOU NEED cheap advertising.
Both of you get exactly what you want with Two Dollar Ads.

You will be subscribed to those 13 ezines. You should stay a
subscriber at least long enough to see your ad run, but I am
betting that many of these ezines will provide the kind of
useful content you need to succeed online, and you will
become a long-term subscriber.

One other thing. This is a ONE TIME ad rate. When you
advertise again with these same ezines, it will be at their
regular rates.

You MAY advertise with one group now, then another group later.
So you CAN experiment for as little as $10.00, and THEN come
back to advertise (and be subscribed to) the second group of
ezines. However, once you are subscribed to an ezine, you
CANNOT pay this ridiculously low price for other ads with the
same ezine. (Publishers want to eat too, you know <g>.)

Better get going. Your deadline is the same as some other
deadline...something to do with government...anyway.

I have already heard from other ezine publishers, and I
expect more will quickly follow. Don't complain to me later
if you wait too long.

http://www.twodollarads.com?nl

2. Ezine Editors.

(Do you see why this program "works" for advertisers?)

Sooner than later this program will be adding to your ezine
subscriber base at a dizzying pace.

By offering an ad to each new subscriber we locate for you at
a such a low price of only $2.00 per ad, you get to increase
your subscribers. If YOU locate the new subscriber/advertiser
we will split the ad fee 50/50 with you. (When you join us,
we will give you the links you need to sell this ad package
from your site and/or your ezine. All sales are being tracked
by a reliable third-party. You do not have to worry about any
hanky panky. On the other hand, if you come anywhere NEAR SPAM
as a promotion technique, you will be unceremoniously cast out
of the group.)

Many of you already offer a free ad to new subscribers.
(We do.)

Why not just reverse the process? Give them a nearly free ad,
and build your ezine list. If you believe you are delivering
good information week after week, then you should be confident
that you will retain new subscribers, and your list will grow.

I am telling you that part of the subscriber base I have today
comes from a program exactly like this. In fact, this program
is the reformulated "Dollar Days" or "Boost" program created by
R.G. Ramsey, a very clever marketer. As the oldest surviving
member of the original program, she offered me the chance to
carry on with her very good work. I JUMPED at her kind offer
because I knew it was so successful for me, and I knew I would
work very hard to make it successful for publishers new and
old who joined Two Dollar Ads once we were ready.

I have NO DOUBT we can add to your subscriber base. NONE.

There is NO COST to you as an editor. Simply agree to run
your new subscriber/advertiser ads, and then let your ezine
speak for itself.

We provide the bonuses at zero cost to you that make this the
best offer online today.

What do you have to lose? A little ad space...and a lot of new
subscribers.

Get more details about joining the program and let me hear from
you.

will see it on step 3 or 4 of the process). When you
are asked for the code enter the following password:

Then you will be returned to the previous page, but see
that no payment is due. You should see a message that
your campaign will start the following Wednesday.

Offer Two:

Surfing for pay this week:

You either love him or you hate him, but AllAdvantage
hosted a fundraiser for him which raised about 1 Million
dollars for Democrats in the California area. Him
who? Billy C. our current US president. Did you know
you can now go to the AA site and make a post of your
opinions (assuming you are an A+ member which requires
20+ referrals.) That feature popped up this past week
too. Don't know if they need your political comments.
Aint competition GRAND. Seems like AllAdvantage is
now exploring the possibility of doing something for
folks who exceed the 25 hour surf limitation. Look for
something besides money to be offered, but still, we
can thank mValue for applying some pressure to the big
boys. I think they may finally be hearing footsteps
behind them.

mValue stats were reportedly updated this week. I do not
think that included referral information, something I
care about. I believe just total time used for which you
will be paid (since they started counting from what I
see - not this month which would be MUCH more useful)
and bonus points are listed. Also I heard a credible
explanation on the other side of the "stealing my
referrals" coin. You know I have blasted them for
competing with builders who are trying to create a big
downstream group by setting up banners/links on heavy
traffic sites and such. In defending this action, they
have said that they are trying to get to a critical mass
quickly. They do have some catching up to do, and their
site does not rank highly on the most visited list, but
that may be because there was nothing new to see (like
updated stats) which accounts for lots of traffic to
competing adstream web sites. So, the old "We are just
protecting your investment of time and money recruiting
because if we don't succeed in the market it is all a
waste anyway and we have the investors and advertisers
to do more but we can't until we get bigger" explanation,
huh? Well, OK. Maybe so. Maybe they get good treatment
this week because my girlfriend got a notice that she
won a $100 prize in the initial big recruiting contest.
Still waiting for my check - by the way, but not worried.

On the other hand, SellSnakeOil, er, GetPaid4 is entering
into the second week without a response for how come I
suddenly do "not exist" in the database? Since I do not
exist, I can't log in with the software and maybe they
do not have to send me a check...Hey wait a minute....
couldn't' be that simple could it? The Advertising.com/
GetPaid4 soap opera continues next week. Other victims
may send their sad stories to make me feel better. The
check that is due now, which I requested BEFORE I stopped
existing should be one of the best yet...if it comes.
When it comes, I suspect it may the last to do so.

Have you guys been playing with the CashFiesta bar yet?
They have the first, spandex software...one size fits all.
Got a BIG screen? You get more banners. Got a tiny screen?
You get fewer banners and one scrawling message. Seems
they are ready to work with you no matter what your
watching the ads with.

If you have tired firing up the SurfingPrizes software, but
couldn't. Try again. They were upgrading servers recently.

Beware CashSurfers out there. There is apparently a ONE
strike you' er out rule in effect over there. A good man
lost his sizeable downline for unspecified acts, and no
chance to explain. This kind of heavy-handed action will
hurt what has been a relatively peaceful program's progress.

On my trip to Vegas last week, by the way, I saw an
article panning the whole surf/get paid concept. Other
companies mentioned? ValuePay and one more? No wonder
this writer didn't like the concept. The little Piggy
program, once so promising seems like a distant memory
now, but I digress. Do you suppose some in the traditional
media worry about ad dollars being diverted to the
adstream ad delivery system? I do.

Speaking of the Vegas experience, which we are NOT dwelling
on, I notice this week that ZDTV sent out a bit on the
JackPot program. JackPot is also getting ink as being
clever enough to mix ads and a game. By the way, for those
of you who downloaded this program, you might need to
return to the site to complete your registration process.
You have to give them info, download and install, THEN
return to complete it to become a "member." I need a few to
qualify for a Palm III paperweight, er, gift. The game is now
live, so it seems to be mimicking real slots...once money
could actually come out, your odds go down. I hit a couple
$5.00 jackpots in beta, but none since then. Still, since
you only need to use the thing for 50 spins per month, I
will keep "active" and wish one of you the very best of luck
since when you win I do too (except for the really BIG $.)
This one probably has the money to payout the promised 2
million in prizes per month. It is backed by the same
company that just paid billions for the rights to the .TV
domains from some small island. Watch for your favorite
television programs to become .TV domains soon. Anyway,
with money like that, they should have the few measly bucks
needed to support JackPot. Playing JackPot is NOT nutritional,
but it does make as much sense to me as playing solitaire or
tri- peaks, and you could probably buy some vegetables or
something if you wanted with your winnings from JackPot.

Speaking of the long lost Piggy...the ol' site has been
changing here and there recently. Promises of more
countries being covered. No mention of Mac users. Most
importantly no explanation of how an correctly installed
program is seen operating properly less often than Blue
Moons out of my dark window. These guys have been waaaay
down on my list ever since they couldn't a) figure out
how to deliver on time, b) use a modern calendar, c) admit
defeat, d) answer emails or e) all of the above.

ItAddsUp, (remember them?) is releasing version 3 of its
software. I must have missed version 2. Better this and
that, yada yada. Problem is that they are still not
paying for downstream folks far as I know and have a cap
of 30 hours at $0.20/hour. I need more to move other
programs off my valuable real estate (screen). If you are
using them, or even have any older version on your computer
PLEASE REMOVE IT COMPLETELY BEFORE you download/install
the new version or face the problems of others who have
passed on this warning.

Also unveiling new viewbar software is PaidForSurf. It is
being tested now and will be released within a week or two.
Good. The old version was so fickle. Sometimes it behaved
like an angel, sometimes like the Devil.

DeskTop Dollars have posted earnings through February on
their site and the rate came in at about 18 cents/hour.
That keeps them in a respectable neighborhood, especially
since DD does NOT require you to surf as much or more than
your downline to get paid fully on downline surf time.
Rather than zip the money to us with PayPal/X.com, they
insist on using their "ClixCard" which allows you to pull
your money out from cooperating ATMs. I have "earned"
enough for a pizza on special, just over $8, but of course
that is just in 14 days. At that rate, it will throw off
a cool $240/year. Gosh what tech stock do I invest all
that withdrawn cash into *smile*? Wonder what my earnings
would do if I actually surfed some too?

ClickDough's payment went using PayPal, by the way.
More and more companies seem to be adopting this payment
system.

Of course any payment system from IgniFugitive would be
great, but apparently that will never come. A month
behind, no word on the site, no response to emails all
add up to being the first out and out fraud in this
category of company. (Giving GoToWorld a break for a
change....By the way, their new software is supposed to
be really, really spiffy. I don't care, but you might.)
Late update..there is some news on the site, but I think
it is all smoke and mirrors. Stick a fork in it dear,
this one is done.

New to me this week:
Getting paid for having a screen saver. On the BIG LIST
is a link for a program that promises to pay for using
my screen saver to deliver ads, but they are on the save
delivery schedule as ValuePay. Now, finally comes a plan
that is at least active now (if not paying - quite yet).
Girlfriend is not sure she likes it. Can't imagine she
misses that dumb Windows 2000 maze? Especially if she
can get paid for it down the road? The software install
itself without any problems on our computers. I set my
screen saver to pop up after a minute because I need to
get 15 closes of the screen saver for every $0.60 I am
paid once out of beta. They have what looks like non-beta
ads programmed in now. The program counts the exposures
and will from time to time switch ads with the mother site
when your current runs have had the maximum exposure.
I could not find information on whether this is a US only
site. There is NOT a Mac version at this time.
http://www.roibot.com/w.cgi?R258_wu

--------------------------------------------
Finding Your Target Market on the Web
By Martin Greening, martin@ezine-traffic.com
--------------------------------------------

One of the most common questions people new to
Internet business ask is, "Where do I find my
target market?" Most of these people know exactly
whom they want to sell their products/services to,
but they have no idea where to find them on the
Internet.

Most of the people selling online are offering a
good product or service, but many of them aren't
making any sales. What's the problem? It's not
their product. It's their marketing, specifically
where they are marketing.

Hundreds upon hundreds of Internet entrepreneurs
are making the very same mistakes every single day.
They are under the impression that placing their
URL on FFA link pages and submitting to billions
of search engines will attract tons of ready to
buy shoppers to their website. Could they be more
wrong!?

These tactics are kind of like trying to sell ice
to Eskimos. They have no need to buy ice when it's
all around them. The same is true for most of the
people who are attracted to these websites. They
have no need for what's there.

So how do you find your target audience? First of
all, you have to think like them. Put yourself in
the place of your customers. What do they want?
Where will they go looking for it online?

The obvious answer is search engines. Yahoo! isn't
the most visited website on the Internet for nothing.
But unless you're willing to spend months just trying
to get a top ranking, or pay someone big bucks to do
it for you, this isn't the best way to find your
audience.

Okay, we've ruled out search engines as the best
place to find your target market. What's the answer
then? Ezines and newsletters.

Why ezines and newsletters?

Why do people subscribe to an ezine? They're
interested in whatever the topic of the ezine
is. If it's about Internet marketing, then the
readers are interested in Internet marketing.
If you're marketing products designed for Internet
marketers, what better place to advertise than in
a publication with a subscriber base made up
completely of Internet marketers? All of them
are potential buyers. No longer are you trying
to sell ice to Eskimos, but to desert nomads
looking for ice!

Advertising in ezines and newsletters is very
effective and it works! There are millions of
subscribers around the world who are receiving
ezines on a regular basis because they are
interested in hearing what the publisher has to say.

So how do you place an ad in an ezine targeted to
your audience?

First you have to find an ezine whose topic matches
your target market. There are several searchable
directories online that list ezines organized by
subject matter. These directories usually list
contact information, advertising rates, and
circulation. Try out one of these:

http://www.lifestylepub.com
http://www.ezineadsource.com

So check them out, find a targeted ezine (maybe
this one?), and place an ad! You'll be amazed at
the number of buying visitors who drop by your
website.

-----------------------------------------------------
Martin Greening is an avid Internet marketer and is
currently looking for motivated individuals to fill a
small group of top leaders in his new organization.

Answers for the "Pro in Motion"

Q. I understand that spelling, grammar and proper use of
language is important on a web site to make it appear
professional. But what about companies that aren't in the
U.S. and have different "rules" of language.

A. Good question! I, myself have probably been remiss in not
making it clear that certain concessions are necessary in these
areas for companies based in countries other than the USA.

We sometimes forget that the Internet is worldwide and we can't
judge someone who is struggling with a language that is foreign
to them - as long as they are doing everything they can do. I
personally commend them for their efforts to communicate in
anything other than their native language and see no reason to
put them under any further pressure.

Although I've heard that 95% of Internet users are in the U.S.,
this won't always be true. Eventually we will have a higher
percentage of users in other countries and we cannot expect them
to use perfect English. Their contact information on their web
sites should help people understand - once they see that this
company is located in a non-English speaking country.

Even people in the UK, Canada and Australia use different
punctuation and spelling than we do it the USA. I have a freind
in the U.K. who told me that HE speaks English - and I speak
American. So - who is correct?

This is something we are going to have to live with when working
in an International medium. We cannot judge another's
professionalism in this case by their command of the English
language.

We all need to remember that the USA isn't the be-all/end-all of
the Internet. To believe that it is severely limits our
options. In the interests for increasing our options - we will
need to show some tolerance for those seeking to communicate
with us in a language which is foreign to them.
