A herd of gnus are grazing on the savannah with some zebras.
They're always on the look out for potential dangers. Hidden
in the grass is a lioness and her pride. She's been there a
while. She's observed. She knows which one is the weakest - the
one which will sustain her family for the next few days.
At the opportune moment she springs into action. "Achtung" -
it's happening. The hunted spread as they try to evade the
pursuit. The lioness makes a bee-line for her target.
Successful, she brings back her catch back to her cubs.
These animals are all part of a living cycle. The gnus control
the flora and fauna on the plains and the lion controls the
gnu population. They all slot in. Most animals have one thing in
common; the concept of survival. The entire life of the gnu
centres around having sufficient to graze upon and not get
killed by a hungry predator. That's it!!!
They don't get to go to the cinema. They can't put on a
backpack, walk into Nairobi Airport and fly around the world.
There's a major difference that separates the human race from
the animal world; that of choice. We choose, in essence, where
we want to live, our friends, our surroundings, our financial
situation, our posessions etc. In a nutshell we steer our lives
the way we would like them to head. We have the choice to thrive
or survive. We have the ultimate power in this world to do more
than roam around the Kenyan savannnah eternally living in fear
of being stripped of the one thing most dear to us all - life
itself.
An interesting statistic is that in the United States
approximately one in ten people in the entire workforce are
self-employed. This means that every businessperson is, on
average, responsible for the life and livelihood of nine other
breadwinners.
Recently I asked my subscribers the weekly survey question
asking if they preferred self-employment as opposed to employee
status. A whopping 97% stood behind the concept of self-
employment. Working for yourself!!! When looking at the above
statistic as an employee of a company in a highly developed
country such as The States and your company of employment goes
broke then you (and nine other employees) are out of work. This
can be catastrophic, especially when you have mortgage payments
(and other responsibilities).
Nine in ten people are making other people wealthy. If you are a
part of this 90% wouldn't you like to transfer to the 10%
minority. Wouldn't you like to exercise your power of choice to
carve your own life rather than have it decided 4U? The poor gnu
on the plains doesn't have this choice. Well, not in our
lifetime anyway!!!
In the title of this article you read "The Power Of Choice -
Whisky, Liqueur Or Cheap Wine". Without being prejudiced cheap
wine has no taste (actually that's not quite true. It does have
taste and it tastes, well, cheap). It has minimal quality and
won't do you any favours. If you don't exercise your power of
choice to improve your life and lifestyle you may accept
mediocrity and become accustomed to the cheap wine flavour in
your mouth.
If you wake up to your dreams, goals, desires, and more
importantly, intentions, and follow them with the burning
desire to realise them, you progressively realise your
worthwhile pre-determined goals. Your cheap wine will become
beer - sparkling wine - champagne and eventually whisky liqueur.
Do you want to emigrate to self-employment?

Surfing for pay this week:
Want a fairly targeted list of avid surfers for your
ad campaign? Would you like to get access to the huge

This should be especially true since AA has been on such
a high horse with regard to spanners. Rumors? Got two for
you. They just passed 10,000,000 members...probably and
40 hours...don't think so.
mValue has a surprise waiting for you the next time you
log on..a new, updated software and a new web site to
match. The latest version has a short-cut for the page
most of us really care about, updated surf/referral info,
built into the bar. Now that is progress. Just hope it
is not too late. Looking at my stats I can see many,
perhaps most, second level referrals are NOT surfing.
Maybe that will get better when mValue starts to deliver
their own newsletter. Guess they want to be able to
deal with problems more directly and control what is
being said. I hope it just makes them concentrate on
providing good software and service. So far, I am enjoying
my updated, updated version. It was a relatively quick,
easy automatic switch. If you have been laying out while
they put the fix in, come back. It's OK now. By the way,
the referral link has changed again. My referral link is

Actually, I tested this latest version and the one before
and they both put me on my referral page with my link in.
Yours may need to be adjusted. This should NOT happen
without notice to you and I. Maybe their newsletter will
fix that too. All is not perfect with the software, as I
tried to close it just now, it went into the dreaded
"not responding" mode and required I shut it down by
selecting it in the open programs window after hitting
Control, Alt, Delete - the three finger salute to new
software everywhere.
ClickDough is in the process of letting you contact your
down line members. Details are still a little vague, but you
may soon be able to tell your down line the secrets you used
to find people so that they can copy your success. This is
great news for those of us who would like to communicate
with those we sponsor. On the bad side, there is room for
up line scolding for "under-surfing" or whatever. I will
be interested to see how this experiment goes, but hats off
in the meantime for allowing it to happen.
My recent find Otter has apparently already sent out checks
to those who came before me. I do not know how anyone could
qualify for a check so soon, unless they had loads of referrals.
DeskTopDollars has redone their site..again. They are claiming
to sent out a bit under $400,000 to members in March, up from
$100,000 in February. The site is looking much cleaner and
more user friendly. The SURPRISE is that now DTD is offering
a $25,000 prize and some other goodies for listening to your
computer radio, which they call DIC. No hourly rate like
RadioFreeCash or CashRadio, but still a nice effort to gain
an audience while the other two struggle to come onto the
scene. My problem is that they want to use the RealAudio
player, and I have made Windows Media Player my player of
choice. I could not get the link to work. May have to
try again later with the latest free RA player.
Assenter is supposedly handing out its beta version of
software. I do not know. Every time I get near that site
my computer goes a bit crazy, and I am arriving via a
fairly new, fairly fast computer. If the site alone causes
trouble, I think I will let others beta test the software
distributed from the site. No need to tempt fate.
Meanwhile BePaid is giving its software to someone, just
no one I know *smile*.
Resource a Day folks have introduced a new program called
10-5-QA which stands for ... dun no. I do know that they will
send you an email every couple days with links to three sites.

Sad to say, but I have reversed my reversal on my previous
recommendation for GetPaid4. This has been an on and off
again relationship. I got my second or third check from
them this week or so, but many appear to be having
ongoing problems with them, and I have dropped them AAA
down into the suggested level near the bottom of that pile.
I was impressed that they had a conversation with me. I have
not been impressed since. These guys are slipping badly,
and I do not know if they can stop the regression towards
GoToWorld's bottom-feeder status.

I can't stress the importance of effective linking
strategies enough - they are the hidden power of the World
Wide Web. There are two benefits to exchanging links. One
is the immediate increase in traffic to your website from
referral partners who are thinking of networking with you.
This can quite often lead to sales. The second benefit, and
most important in our minds, is the ongoing funnel of new,
pre-qualified prospects it brings to your doorstep.
This is still one of the best ways to promote your site for
free. And it's easy to do. Make a simple page called
"Favorite Resources", and start adding links to other
people's web sites. Be sure to put your display ad in the
middle of it. Then contact website owners and ask if they
would like to exchange links with you. You will be
pleasantly surprised by how many will be happy to promote
your site!
Here is a step-by-step approach:
First, identify a group of people who know how to reach your
target audience. Think of people who come into contact with
your market at the time they would be considering making a
purchase. Find these people through search engines, web
rings, and link pages on other websites.
Then, call them or send them an e-mail that talks about the
things you both have in common. Mention the way you came
across their name. Tell them the reason you think you share
a common market. Mention something about your website and
show them your "Favorite Resources" page.
Offer to provide them with a link because they would be able
to provide a good product, service, or resource that your
customers are interested in. Make it very easy for them to
come to your site and exchange links. In the friendliest
way you can, tell them to feel free to come by your site
anytime and you will be glad to add their link.
Let them know that your marketing research suggests that
your customers would be willing buyers of THEIR products -
and their customers could benefit from the things you
provide. Ask them if there is anything specific they would
like you to mention about their website, and offer to write
something really nice about them when you add their link.
Do you think anyone will flame you for doing this? Won't
they look at your site? Hasn't everyone heard about how
important it is to exchange links on the Internet? But
don't misunderstand, this is not a trick or ploy, you must
truly feel that you can provide some mutual benefit to each
other.
The sure-fire way to make this even more effective is to add
a link to them yourself. Do this first, before you contact
them. Say something wonderful and glowing, give them a
tremendous endorsement, mention the things on their website
that you liked, encourage your visitors to take a look at
their site.
Will people click immediately on your site when they hear
that you have added a link to their website? Will they look
for their link? Will they beam when they read what you said
about them? Will they tell other people about your website?
Will they add a link to their page cross-promoting you?
Will they be open to discussing joint-ventures and other
cross-marketing opportunities? You bet! In fact they will
do anything you suggest that is easy for them to do.
Follow-up with people after you have placed their link. Do
they see some value in furthering the relationship? Would
they like to be placed on top of your list? What can they
do for you that would make you want to promote them even
more? Ask the question . . . you'll be very pleased with
the answers!

Answers for the "Pro in Motion"
Q. Having set up my own web-site and spending the last three
months reading on how to get traffic to it, I still can not
attract sufficient volume.
I am finding this venture very frustrating and time
consuming. Basically, I have swapped one job for another.
Can you recommend someone (company) which will market my
site for me? What will be the costs involved, etc.??

A. Mark, you have come up with an issue that haunts every
beginning web site owner. Unfortunately, I can't use this
column to recommend particular companies. (Much as I'd like to
sometimes.)
To begin with, it sounds as if you have traded a "regular" job
in favor of an online business. I hope you didn't do this with
the idea in mind that working online would be easy. Forget all
the hype about making millions in 3 hours a day. If you came
online expecting that you wouldn't have to work - there is a
rude awakening in store.
We may spend 8 hours a day at a "brick and mortar" job. Yet, we
can expect to spend 18 hours a day working online - especially
in the beginning. One of the first things you have to do is
establish your credibility. No where is it more important than
online to present yourself as a professional - and that takes
time.
A start-up business in the brick and mortar world usually takes
at least two years to show any true profit. Nothing less should
be expected online. If you expect to have a successful - and
professional - online company, you just have to do the time.
You have myriad details to keep track of on a daily basis. Even
if you hire a company to do your promotion for you, you will
need to stay on top of what they're doing. You will also need
to double-check their work as well as continue to do whatever
activities you keep for yourself. EVERYthing is hands-on unless
you can afford to hire a full-fledged staff - train them - and
trust them.
In the beginning, we sometimes waste time and money trying every
product/service out there that makes big promises. Sad - but
true - that's also how many people learn what NOT to do. So why
don't we ask those who actually GET high traffic?
Let's start by asking our readers. How do you do it? What
processes have you found that TRULY increase traffic in a big
way? Don't try to sell me your affiliate programs. I'm looking
for "processes" here. What saves time? What works? What is
actually efficient?
I will publish the best answers - and give you full credit.
This truly is a question that many would like to see answered in
ways that are relevant and useful. Remember! No ads! No
touting of affiliate programs! Those will be trashed. I just
