I printed a letter from a subscriber who was concerned
that I was talk about MLMs as a "viable eCommerce activity."
I then proceeded to (I hope) gently disagree with my
reader on her position. Then I asked you to write to me
to let me know if I was right, wrong, something else, or
wasting your time. Thankfully, no one selected the time-
wasting choice. Actually, no one selected the subject line
telling me I was wrong. Several fell into the something
else group and the overwhelming majority told me I was right.
Perhaps I was preaching to the choir in this ezine when I
said that MLM IS a legitimate marketing choice and form. My
past experience tells me that most of you are webmasters and/or
online marketers. I know how busy you folks are, and I really
appreciate the time you took to write me.
I am running a bit long today (I'm always am a bit long <g>),
so I will not reprint what you told me in your responses BUT
I will consider telling the group what you said next week
UNLESS you write me to tell me to keep your comments private
which I will do if you wish. This also gives one more week
for those of you who were quiet to join the battle. Perhaps
you are shocked no one agreed that all MLMs are basically
scams and/or illegal. Perhaps you just want to join the
majority opinion with a concurrence, er, excuse me for the
legal slip of the tongue....You may want to agree with me
which is fine with me.
Here is the basic debated question.
MLMs are a proper form for online marketing and the use of
this form of business will increase in the future.
That is basically the position I took last week. Let me
know what you think. If you told me already, but don't want
to share with the group, let me know that too. I expect
to push an article out of the way and give the space to
your answers.
Creating a successful Internet presence involves much more than
designing a great web site or having the "perfect" product. Listing
your website with the Search Engines is your first step, however,
you must not solely depend upon the Search Engines to bring
you traffic. You must design a complete promotional strategy and
work it every day.
A good way to organize your promotions is to set up a webpage,
for your personal use, that will contain your complete strategy.
This page should be stored on your hard drive and not uploaded
to your server. Your page should contain four sections.
Each of these four sections should contain the appropriate
information for each of your promotional resources such as,
website name, user ID, password (if applicable) and hyperlinked
web addresses for each website you plan to use for your
promotions. This will enable you to open your webpage each
day and visit each daily promotional link you have listed.
Your daily promotions should include posting your ads to a list
of free classified ad and free for all sites. In addition, visit some
popular discussion boards. Although you may not advertise on
discussion boards, you can include your signature file with your
post.
There are several websites that will enable you to submit your
classified ads and links to an entire network of sites with just
one form. Here is a list of resources to get you started:
Your weekly promotions should consist of placing a paid ezine
advertisement and/or arranging ad swaps with fellow publishers.
Visit the Free Directory of Ezines for all the information you'll
need to place and/or swap ads with over 700 ezines. http://www.netmastersolutions.com/
To organize your ad placements and swaps, place the
publication names, publisher names, ad dates and hyperlinked
web addresses within your weekly promotions list.
Your monthly promotions should include writing an article in the
area of your expertise, Search Engine submissions, promotional
exchanges with similar websites and offline promotions.
Writing Articles:
Writing articles that may be freely published with your bylines
is one of the best promotional methods online. Your article may
be published in hundreds of ezines, on websites or even in
magazines. To learn more about writing articles for publication,

To organize your monthly promotions, place the names and
hyperlinked web addresses for each of your promotional
resources within your monthly promotions section.
To set up some promotional exchanges with similar websites,
visit a Search Engine and type in a keyword that best describes
your website. Visit some websites that are similar to yours, but
not in competition. Contact the webmaster to discuss your
promotional exchange. This may be a link exchange, joint
venture, or whatever you both decide.
Your miscellaneous promotions will include; running a press
release, joining traffic generating programs, buying promotional
products and advertising in newspapers, magazines, etc.

Once you've created your promotional webpage, open it up in
your browser and add it to your favorite places or bookmark it
for easy daily access. Set up a specific day for your weekly
and monthly promotions and perform your miscellaneous
promotions as needed.
Once you've implemented your promotional strategy and
continuously work it each day, you'll be amazed with the results
of your efforts. Consistency will be the key to driving massive
traffic to your site.

fundraising efforts. Grouping pay per click, per sale
and even a pay for surfing bar (all money raised goes to

Surfing for pay this week:
Remember last week, when I told you there were some saying,
"The sky is falling" as far as AllAdvantage goes? I think I
am pulling bits of sky out of my hair this week. As a "valued
A+ member" I actually got two emails. One explaining the new
complicated maximums and payrates, and one telling me as an
A+ member to not panic, even help calm the rest of you down.
I had some trouble logging in this week, bet you did too. Hope
it gets better, but I would not be surprised by a 40-60% DROP
in income from AA this month. Some countries get more hours
than before and better rates. Not here in the US. Not good.
Time to reconsider what I personally promote the hardest on
my site. AA is falling, not the sky, and their rank will fall
too.
DeskTop Dollars sent me some cash this month, with more in the
future. CashSurfers too, checked to be sure the money they are
sending will end up at the right place. Makes me wonder again
when mValue will get it together and send out my contest winnings.
We will see.
PaysU released its software on the US general population this
week too. From what I can see, very clean and stable, exactly
like beta users promised it would be. This is a good choice
for us in the US after we exhaust the big 15 hours from Jotter
and AllAdvantage.
CashFiesta released their software this week. Recall this
version enlarges to fill the horizontal space. Small screens
see one banner, bigger two, and huge resolutions can see up
to three banners (not all "full-sized" of course.) They offer
unlimited surf time and with AllAdvantage stumbling this may
be a perfectly timed release.

AN ANALYSIS OF A WINNING SALES LETTER

Many people say they can spot a good letter when they see it,
but the problem is when it comes down to writing one, they
simply freeze up. That's why I want to take you behind the
scenes of a successful sales letter I wrote and illustrate
the thinking that goes into writing a killer letter that
generated a healthy 3810% ROI.
You'll find my comments in the side notes below so let's get

First off, the headline is a grabber and makes people want to
read more. You would fill-in-the-blank with your item and its
retail price and then the bargain price. So the headline asks
a provocative question. Anyone interested in your product at
a bargain price would certainly continue reading.

Next, the subhead tells prospects that the answer is right
inside this letter if they keep reading.

Yes, it's absolutely true. You can have a brand new

Your first sentence is absolutely critical to your letter.
If your first sentence doesn't make people want to keep
reading, you can expect your letter to end up in the circular
file. So make sure it keeps their interest piqued and follow
up on the headline promise in the first sentence.
In the first sentence I reiterate the fact that yes they
really can get a brand new widget for such a low price. The
second sentence I throw in a little scarcity right at the
beginning of the letter so they won't just toss this letter
aside for further reading.

Answers for the "Pro in Motion"
Q. Everywhere I turn, someone tells me that it's wrong to send
Spam. So far, no one has defined it for me yet, and it's assumed
that I know what it is.
The reason I ask is because as a freelance writer, I have sent
unsolicited queries to magazine and newsletter publishers, web
masters and e-zine publishers, asking them if they are open to
freelance contributions, and asking for their writer's
guidelines. I don't want to offend my potential clients. On the
other hand, I believe it's standard practice for a writer to
query? (Damaria)
A. I've been hoping someone would ask this question! Many
people will tell you that "spam" is ANY commercial email that is
not specifically requested. (UCE) HOWEVER - this definition
itself is where things begin to fall apart.
In the "brick and mortar" business world, one company must
contact another if they wish to set up a business relationship.
It has to start somewhere! How is that to happen online if we
are denied the privilege of making the first contact?
A little common sense would be in order for the "spam police."
So-called "spam" should only be defined as blatant advertising
sent indiscriminately. It would have the same aspects as "junk
mail" in the brick and mortar world. It would NOT refer to
legitimate business to business correspondence.
Off-line, it is accepted - in fact, required - procedure for a
writer to query a publisher before sending manuscripts or
articles. Of course, we also expect to be paid for those
articles.
Unfortunately, we're not quite so professional online. Or,
maybe we're just a bit more casual about it since we have that
trusty "delete" option to eliminate articles we're not
interested in publishing. At this point in time, very few
online publishers pay for articles since the market is flooded
with "authors" thrilled to be published online with no
compensation.
For the most part it is an acceptable practice online to simply
send the article for consideration. You MUST however, include
an email address and directions so that the publisher can be
removed from your list if (s)he isn't interested in receiving
any more submissions from you.
Nearly all online publishers are hungry for content and will
find this acceptable. Most are also sending their own writings
to many other publishers - in the same manner. Sadly, you are
more likely to have an article picked up this way than you are
to get a reasonable response to a query - especially if you
intend to be paid for your work. As I said - we still seem to
be failing to handle this manner very professionally online.
